I visited Vitality yesterday and was so impressed. The facility is extremely well kept and beautifully decorated for Christmas — it gave such a warm, homey feeling the moment I walked in. Tina gave me a tour of the community, and she was absolutely lovely. She was sweet, informative, and made sure to cover every detail. I truly appreciate her time and the opportunity to tour the community. I would definitely recommend Vitality to my loved ones.

Mom is a recent resident of Memory Care. The facility is top notch with a beautiful enclosed outdoor walking space and garden. A great memory care director who plans appropriate and thoughtful activities throughout the day. I’m so happy mom is safe and well cared for at Vitality Stony Brook

We've had a good experience with both the assisted living and memory care units. Staff is skilled and keep up with their duties. Food is good, and service is both dining room and inside units.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This place is beyond bad. My mother has lived here for just over a year and it's been one disaster after another. Nothing they sold us on when we first visited has been delivered - and the price has gone up $1300 in just over a year. They can't keep staff and, because of this, her room is not cleaned regularly (supposed to be cleaned weekly and sometimes, they just don't show up to do it), her trash is not taken out regularly (supposed to be every day - sometimes, she's lucky if it's twice a week), decent meals are not prepared. They just lost the 3rd chef since my mom moved in. Every chef has stated that the reason they are quitting is because the kitchen is "horrid, abhorrent, worst they've seen" - we wouldn't know the kitchen condition because they will not allow any of us to go in and look at it. When the chef leaves, the residents are offered cold cereal for breakfast and cold sandwiches for lunch AND dinner. Nothing nutritious, nothing good, nothing hot. Don't get me started on the medication issue. We had a foolproof system in place for my mom and her meds. We set up a machine that delivered her morning meds and evening meds at the same time every day. She was not able to access the medication in the machine, she only had access to the pills that were dispensed each morning and evening. We filled the machine every two weeks with her meds. Then, Vitality decided, because of a new law that was NOT mandatory, that if the residents couldn't identify all medications they take (the name of the med and what it's for), then Vitality would have to be the dispenser of their meds - at an increase of $485 every month. We tried to no avail to fight it. So, now, we are paying an extra $485 a month for them to dispense my mother's meds - we don't know if they are giving her the correct medication, we don't know if they are dispensing her meds on time, we don't know if they are making sure she actually takes the meds (we have found some of her pills on the floor of her bedroom - twice). We are supposed to be receiving a monthly report but it's never come. This place is horrible. We are looking for a new one and I suggest you do the same if you want your loved one taken care of.

At a time when our senior adults slow down in their active lifestyles, Vitality Living Stony Brook provides a safe environment for a variety of fun and stimulating activities. The staff is professional, friendly and accommodating and treats everyone with respect. My mother-in-law was apprehensive about moving there in June but has grown stronger and healthier and has become part of an extended family. Vitality welcomes and encourages participation from family members and plans many events to include not only residents and family members but also the community in general.
