My mom has been at Avonlea for nearly 4 years. The care-givers and nurses and even the cooks are wonderful and I've seen nothing but exemplary care. My mom has had a tough road in her Alzheimer's journey and she can no longer walk, talk or feed herself. Yet, every day, she's clean, she's out in the Great room in her Broda wheelchair engaged in daily activities even though she can only observe. I've walked into Avonlea often to find a care-giver holding her hand and actually making her laugh. I've walked in to find the nurse feeding her an evening snack. I've observed the interactions between other residents and staff and it's nothing short of kind, caring, and simply impressive. Her room is always clean, as is the whole very homey facility. The beauty of this small facility is that the nurses tell me or call me right away when any new health issues arise, any medications are getting low, or any changes I need to know about. Mom's dementia has been a difficult journey and I don't know how I would've gotten through this without Avonlea. I strongly recommend Avonlea Cottage to anyone searching for a good Memory Care.

As I sat at my 87-year old Grandfather's funeral today, I reflected over memories of him throughout my life... and I noticed the Director of Avonlea in the reception line. And as time went on, several of the caretakers at Avonlea came and gave their respects to my family. The 7 or 8 days that he lay in bed, under Hospice Care at the end, several staff at Avonlea came by to give him a kiss on the forehead, several with tears in their eyes. They made sure to keep him comfortable, and checked him thoroughly for beginnings of "bedsores" several times per day. They were extraordinarily compassionate, caring and professional. My Grandfather's total stay there was 2 years. He had advanced Alzeimer's and slept only about 2 hours at a time when we brought him to Avonlea. Not only did they take amazing care of him, but he maintained a private room, with the settings of home. I never noticed any type of smell at Avonlea, and it always seemed pleasant, peaceful and homey when I visited. I know my Grandmother, and my Aunt, (who were there more than anyone else), got to know other residents at Avonlea, as well as some of their families, and became close with them as well. I personally would love to thank each and every one of my Grandfather's caretakers. They allowed a happy, caring, loving, proud man to live, and die with dignity and respect. I think Avonlea is a wonderful place.
