AZURA MEMORY CARE OF MANITOWOC

My mother spent the last 4 months of her life at Azura Manitowoc. I could not be more thankful for the staff and the amazing care they gave to her. She had always been afraid of going into a care facility, but in so many ways her quality of life improved significantly while at Azura. Beyond getting her meds on time, and three good meals a day, hygiene care etc., I think the most significant part of the experience was how the low staff-to-resident ratio, and the loving presence of the caregivers, created a very safe social environment that re-activated parts of my mom's personality that we didn't often see anymore while caring for her at home. I believe this put her into more of a social, extroverted frame of mind rather than a sick-at-home frame of mind. At times she believed that she was on the staff and would pop into the manager's office to see what needed to be done. She would make rounds to the other residents' rooms to see if they needed anything. She wanted to help vacuum. Knowing that she had these moments of feeling that she had something to contribute was an incredible turnaround from how withdrawn she was becoming at home. The magical formula seems to be that staff spend a large amount of time just being present with the residents. Everyone (staff and residents) gathers in the common room daily for TV, naps, arts and crafts, tossing a ball, music, combing and braiding hair, painting nails, and giving comfort and support to each other. It was wonderful to arrive for a visit and find her engaged in some activity or conversation. My mom spent her last days there on hospice care. While my family was all gathered in her room, we really felt the loving atmosphere of the place around us. The Azura staff did an incredible job assisting with hospice-level care (as directed by the amazing people at Heartland Hospice). I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the staff for the very challenging and important work that they do, including Kelly, Paige, Carly, Rachel, Maddie, Sean, Kimmy and others who I may not have met but who also helped to make my mom's last days comfortable and peaceful.

I don’t even know where to begin. I didn’t even know an amazing place like this existed. The young girls care so much about their residents. Everyone there cares so much about all their residents. It’s one big family there. I would never, ever, bring my mom anywhere else!

My mom was at a different rehab facility for many months and my sister and I left crying almost everyday. We brought her here and she is getting the correct dosages of medication and one on one care and the staff here is so sweet and caring! She is a picky eater and they try to make her anything she wants so she has a good meal. Mom hasn’t been at her baseline in months and since being there she is getting better and better everyday!

Facility is clean and very well taken care off. Staff are very polite and work very well together. Residents are taken care of very well. ED communicates with everyone coming in azura. Thank you for taking such good care of all the residents.

Azura is a wonderful place to have a family member live at! The staff are so attentive and caring to their residents and to one another.
