I could go on and on about this establishment, but nobody has time to read a novel. I will say this...do not let them EFT your rent out of a checking account. My mother-in-law left in the middle of the month (we gave them 30 days) and they took the full amount out of my Father-in-law's account. We have been trying for 4.5 months to get it back, but we just keep getting the "It will be in there in two weeks" or "It will be there between March 15th and March 31st". Well it's still not in there and nobody will return my phone calls. So frustrating! There is a whole bunch of other things I could say about this place, but I will bite my tongue. Hopefully I can save someone the aggravation and heartache we are going through now.

Missing automatic doors, senior living facility should have them. Outer door handle fell of several times in my hand. Mom had an item taken from her room, it was never found. They could care less. Haven’t offered to replace it. Long wait time to get someone to open the door to enter living quarters. No unlimited access or easy access for families. Horrible visiting hours. Wasn’t able to see my mom during the week because I work the same hours as visiting hours. Had a difficult time getting the kitchen staff to understand that my mom was on a low sodium diet, they kept giving her foods high in sodium. Menu was very repetitive, a lot of eggs, bacon and chicken. Sometimes the cook would come up with strange combinations. One night they didn’t have anyone scheduled in the kitchen and residents had to wait until 9 pm (or so) and the care staff had to order pizza for them. Very short staffed (as many places are). Mom was left sitting on the toilet for long periods of time before someone came to assist her. Not all staff was friendly. Those that were went above and beyond. Very expensive for what you get. Wouldn’t give a breakdown for cost of living and care for tax purposes. Leaving it up to our accountant. Very poor in returning calls.

My brother moved to Bella Vita August 2023. The staff treat us with respect and kindness. My brother is an introvert but because of the care and attention given he is attending activities. We have been extremely pleased.

My mother was one of the first residents in the Hartland facility. The Bella Vita team is great and really look after my mother. It's a great feeling knowing she is safe and secure.

Read reviews carefully. The ONLY positive review was written by a management employee. We moved my dad in and 3 weeks later took him right back out. His wife/my stepmom had been placed there by her sons while my dad was hospitalized and once he was released we wanted them together. However, there are MANY problems and shortcomings in this facility. Don’t be fooled by the beautiful decor! They are inadequately staffed and the majority of the staff they do have seem incompetent, uncaring, unhelpful, and even rude at times. There were several exceptions and I am thankful for the couple who were kind and helpful but they were certainly not among the management staff. There were times when the facility literally ran out of food for meals, saying their truck hadn’t arrived, and the residents were served nothing more than a side salad for dinner…nothing else! To be clear: not an entree salad with chicken or any type of protein… a side salad. Another time it was a bowl of soup. For dinner! The printed menu (which we had to ask for repeatedly!) frequently did not match what was actually served. Requests for snacks were discouraged and/denied and you’d better like what is put in front of you because trying to get an alternative is also discouraged and a very uphill battle. We were assured this would not be the case but it definitely was the reality. Bed sheets were not changed for the first 2 1/2 weeks, laundry was overlooked, shower days were missed, medication was a nightmare. When my dad explained he had a med that needed to be taken separately from the others he was told “That’s not how we do it here.” It was a miserable, miserable experience and my stepmom fared no better in the Memory Care wing, for which the word “care” is quite ironic. There was no “care” on the memory care side other than keeping residents behind a locked door. We moved both parents out ahead of the end of the month because of how disgusted we were with the lack of care. As we drove away my dad said “I never want to see that place again.” We’ve settled him and his wife into a wonderful place and couldn’t be more pleased. Do your loved one a favor and pull the 20-page report on file with the State of Michigan in regards to complaints and violations at Bella Vita. There are better places. Sent from my iPhone
