BARCLAY HOUSE OF AIKEN

It has taken me quite some time to write this review. My mother lived in Barkley House of Aiken since it opened. She started out in the assisted living section and was happy there. Eventually her memory failed so she was transferred to the memory care unit. I was not happy with the living conditions. The room wasn't kept clean, she was always alone behind a closed door. She had macular degeneration and was virtually blind, she needed assistance. I don't feel that she got the attention she needed. When she passed away at age 99, she was wearing 3 pieces of jewelry that she cherished. Her wedding ring, a necklace, and a bracelet. All of them gold. Her nephew picked up her possessions and sent me the bracelet. It had been swapped for something from a gumball machine. It would fit a child, a cheap little trinket! There were times I thought to take the jewelry, but I know how much it meant to her to have it and certainly didn't expect for it to be stolen. Who steals jewelry from a dead woman's body??? I spoke to Jennifer the director and am not sure she even looked into the matter. When I called she never even gave me condolences on my mother's passing . I also filed a police report but nothing came of that. So if you are looking for a facility for a loved one, find a place where the management and staff truly care. You won't find that at Barclay House in Aiken.

This isn't a review based on anyone's personal stay, but I just got off the phone with a kind woman named Kim who took the time to answer several questions I’ve struggled to get answers to from both my parents and the hospital, especially after my dad's car accident left him significantly limited. Her help meant the world to me, and I can only imagine that this place is filled with people who genuinely care and listen. While it may not be the best option for my dad due to its distance from my mom, I am incredibly grateful for the support. Thank you again for everything.

The staff at this community are the angels in my life. My parents moved into Benton House 2.5 years ago. The staff has always been there to support my parents and our family despite the many bumps along the way. Living in a different state, I know that my father is loved and cared for by the entire staff. Benton House has handled the pandemic with positivity, creativity, laughter and grace. They give me peace of mind at a time it is so desperately needed. I just finished a visit with my father and I was tickled to see the laughter and love between him and the staff. Thank you, Benton House of Aiken, for creating a home...

Susan and I are so very grateful for Benton House of Aiken and the amazing Ladies and Gentlemen who work so hard to support its' residents. For almost two years, support and care for my Mom and Dad has been very professional and sensitive. When my Mom passed away in November 2020, all of Benton House rallied in her Memory and to support my Dad during such a difficult time for our Family. The past year with the pandemic has been very challenging yet we know my Dad is most protected, most cared for and on his behalf, we thank you very much! We are so blessed to have all of you caring for and loving my Dad.

Words will never adequately express our appreciation of the staff at the Benton House of Aiken. Our mother, Lillian, has been treated consistently with kindness and respect. All of the staff; cooks, maintenance, nursing staff, administrators, custodians, have been pleasant and extremely accommodating. We admire the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual support that is provided to our mother and all of the residents. The peace of mind provided to us knowing that Lil is well cared for, is immeasurable. Benton House staff are truly committed to their professions. They have recognized and answered a calling.
