Recently my brother’s hospice journey was in my hands to direct. Being referred to Bernadette’s Home Care group with 4 homes to choose from I was overwhelmed: I don’t make decisions like this everyday. Ultimately, I chose Bernadette Home Care IV on Dunnigan Street in Camarillo. My brother was treated with dignity, respect and attention around the clock. We were allowed to visit him all day, any day if we wanted to and we never felt we were a burden to the house staff. My brother recently died peacefully in this caring home environment. My family wishes to thank the resident staff for their support, attention and care of our beloved brother.

My mom stayed at Bernadette Home Care on Marrisa Ln. Unfortunately her stay was brief--only a few days--as the staff was not able to provide the services that were promised. Prescribed medicine was not administered. Her cat, which we paid extra to have cared for, was not regularly provided with fresh food. And the staff was unable to check-in on my mom as often as her condition required. During the interview process, they said "yes" to all our questions. basically promising more than they could deliver. I don't doubt that they could provide good care to someone with fewer needs than my mom. But in this case, we wasted time, money, and caused my mom a lot of stress unnecessarily.

My Dad was at Bernadette Home Care on Lathan Ave in Camarillo for 4 years. The caregivers he had genuinely loved him and looked after him. From what I understand, this place is affordable compared to other options. My Dad was always satisfied with the food, contrary to what the other reviewer has said! :) He never missed a meal! They were always VERY clean. Its a quiet place, in a beautiful neighborhood. The owner is very quick to communicate if you have a need. The caregivers gave them their time and patience and had my Father's interests in mind. My Dad's main caregiver cried with me when my Dad passed. They really care! It was always such a comfort knowing my father was in such good hands.I would recommend this facility to anyone.

My father was here for 3 years, 100% this is about the caregivers assigned. He had a few changes over his stay but Jo and Edna were top notch. He had a shared room but most of his roommates were non-communicative or very limited. They will follow Dr order to g Er them up and in wheelchairs but if residents don’t want to, they don’t force anything Jo and Edna listened to everything he or family requested. Food was admittedly just eh! But so is hospital food they have to cook bland and easy to eat for the whole house. But we were always welcome to bring special food in and they would make sure he got it. And I know Jo would attempt special dishes upon request (but still easy to cook). They always had basic ice cream and juice but dad like his choice so we would bring what he wanted and they would get for him anytime he asked. I recommend with a caveat. Family must be involved, and if there is something you don’t like say something , and if you still don’t like, move on. These homes exist because family cannot manage the basic and often gross part of health care, they do the best they can, and Bernadette was always responsive to dads needs and requests, if the issue was staff, they were changed if they could not be trained

My 92 year old mother is housed in this facility (sorry not this one the Simi Valley location) unfortunately because of bad planning so a family member thought it would be a good idea to place her here. What a mistake. I visited today and I was not happy. They placed her in a small room, mind you I don’t have the vaccine so I had to talk to her through the window in her room. I asked my mother how the food was and she said awful. They gave her Mac and Cheese, kids food. There’s 5-6 inhabitants including the “nurses” so there’s little to no interaction with others. Feels like a jail cell. Chow and bathroom breaks. Who knows what type of treatment she’s receiving. I would not recommend the place for what they charge, what am I saying, even if it was free!
