When my mother’s health began to decline, our family suddenly found ourselves in a situation we have not dealt with before. The administrator at Blakey Hall took the time to walk us through the differences between independent, assisted living, and nursing care in a way that was clear, patient, and never overwhelming. What could have been a confusing and emotional process felt calming and was a huge help to us at the time. We never felt rushed or pushed into anything. Instead, we felt supported and informed every step of the way. That level of care and education made all the difference to help us make decisions.

As a nurse practitioner who regularly visits this assisted living facility, I can confidently say it is one of the best in the area. The entire building is always spotless and well-maintained, creating a welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. The staff here are exceptionally friendly, helpful, and truly dedicated to the well-being of every resident. One of my favorite parts of this facility is the memory care unit. The atmosphere there is always lively and joyful—residents can often be seen smiling, laughing, and even dancing together with the staff. The team goes above and beyond to create meaningful and fun experiences for everyone. I have seen firsthand how well the residents are cared for, and I would absolutely recommend this facility to anyone looking for a safe, supportive, and happy home for their loved ones—including my own family.

As a public health student completing my practicum at Blakey Hall, I was genuinely impressed by the level of care and attention provided to the residents. The staff were welcoming, professional, and clearly dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment for the residents. What stood out to me most was their commitment to holistic wellness, from nutritious meals and cleanliness to mental, emotional, and social well-being. The facility is clean, well-organized, and thoughtfully designed to support residents’ independence and engagement. I also observed how respectfully and patiently staff interacted with residents, reflecting a strong culture of compassion and dignity in care. Blakey Hall is a great example of how residential care can align with public health values by promoting quality of life for aging populations. I would highly recommend Blakey Hall to families seeking a trustworthy and caring home for their loved ones.

Blakey Hall might not have been the first assisted living residence my Mom lived in but it was certainly the best. First, Mom loved her “apartment” as we called it. With tall ceilings, and an overly high window to let in light, her place was bright and cheerful. She had plenty of room for her beloved furnishings that made it feel like home. The little kitchenette with a microwave, undercounter frig and ample cabinetry for storage, allowed her to putter, make her morning coffee and have some little snacks at will. An extra wide closet and a large handicap bathroom allowed her to age in place gracefully. The salon and laundry room were just across the hall. She loved to get her hair washed every week which was a big bonus for someone who had rheumatoid arthritis in her shoulders. She was known to do her own laundry which allowed her to feel independent until she couldn’t do it anymore. With dining rooms on both floors of Blakey Hall, there was a sense of intimacy with the other residents that was lacking at her former residence with one large dining room. Mom, having worked in the restaurant industry until she was 70, was a harsh critic of meals. She really liked the food at Blakey Hall as it was well prepared and tasty. The staff were wonderful. Mom was not one to join activities, but the activity director was always good at inviting Mom and got her to participate more often than not. Due to Mom’s aphasia and her diminishing hearing, the staff at every level were always patient, and understanding of her frustration in communicating. When there were issues that arose regarding her health and well-being, management and medical staff were always willing to discuss any situation and work with me to come up with ways to meet her needs to our mutual satisfaction. That’s why I don’t understand some of the negative comments. Then I realized that sometimes it is difficult for family and friends to accept the diminishing mental, emotional and physical capability of their loved ones. There might even be a fear that increased needs might incur additional financial demands. However, Blakey Hall always put my Mom’s health and well-being first. I will be forever thankful that I found Blakey Hall. At Blakey Hall, my Mom’s last years were comfortable, happy and they provided great care in a loving atmosphere. I couldn’t have asked for more.

My mom lived at Blakey Hall until she passed away. The care she received from the staff was excellent and it felt as if we were leaving extended family. Mom commented more than once that the food was good and her room was kept clean. Before she moved in, I visited three other facilities in the area and read the inspection report on all four from DHHS. I am convinced the best one was selected. The only thing I wish was different was the communication from management was not always the best. There were times when I didn’t receive call backs or responses to emails and had to repeatedly follow up.
