Sat waiting for someone to answer the door at the memory care unit. No answer after ringing the door 4 times. I could hear what sounded like a nurse talking rang bell again and no answer so I looked to see if I could find someone at front desk a nobody was there. Driving in I saw 3 nurses hanging outside. I have heard stories about this establishment and now experienced my own. Ridiculous. I will be calling Monday to talk to the director.

If you are considering moving a loved one to The Pines? DON'T!! I see there are many 5 star reviews. How they received them is beyond me. My mother-in-law was in Memory Care and after 5 months we had to get her out of there. The facility was normally short staffed so individual assistance was non-existent. I would have to compare it to an institution not a care facility. During the last few months we had to visit almost every day to ensure she was clean and properly groomed. Her room and the hallways had a strong odor of residual urine which made you want to shower after you left. Speaking of the hallways, the Memory Unit had a maze of long hallways that made it utterly impossible for the poor staff to keep an eye on any of the residents as they wandered. The Pines had just received a new director who was slated to "fix" all the issues and I hope that will happen.

Before you consider bring a family member to Pines that Hilton Head please hire a exterminator because multiple residents have bed bugs on assisted living side and won't replace the furniture that's holding feces ,urine and bed bugs

I don’t have any one there but my mom has been looking for a place since January and I have been in contact with Steve to get information about the area and about the Pines. He has went above and beyond to help me and check in on how my mom is doing. He has always responded to me right away and has been so encouraging and helpful! I hope I will be able to get my mom into the assisted living as soon as she’s well enough to make the drive . Thank hi Steve !

We moved my dad from out of state into The Pines Assisted Living facility in Hilton Head Island in September of 2022. Due to timing issues with our moving company dad was either going to have to stay with my niece or in a hotel while we waited for his furniture to arrive. The staff at The Pines offered their Respite Care room as a temporary solution which worked out well for all of us. We only have positive things to say about their staff, whom many have worked there for years (especially Mary❤️)! The residents were friendly and welcoming to my dad and the facility was small enough that there was more of a “family” feel than being placed in a medical care facility. I would highly recommend The Pines at Hilton Head Island if you’re looking for a placement for a family member. We also liked that The Pines contracted with South Carolina Housecalls which is a medical group which we chose to follow our fathers medical care. It was convenient and made for an easy transition.
