This is not to suggest this care center is not a good fit for others. Each family situation and needs are different. If we have learned anything with dealing with this disease it is that is is brutal for everyone involved, including staff at care centers. I am sharing our experience in the hopes it helps others on their journey. We moved our mom into this care center without being aware it is important to ask: what happens when someone suffering from this disease might talk about wanting to die and causing harm. This was the case for our 77 year old 5 foot 90 pound increasing frail and unsteady mother. She had no history of self-harm or any behavioral health needs. This talk was due to the disease and she was never a threat to herself or others. However, this would come up and redirection was needed - and likely medication management. It is the policy of this facility (not all) to immediately transport to the ER. This happened and then our mom was hospitalized and returned a week later to this care facility unable to walk. We were informed it was company policy this would take place again - with no other less drastic courses of action offered. So, we immediately took her out of this home and have found another whose policy is not to immediately take the most drastic measures. They work with us (her family) and other providers to manage her health and emotional needs and she is now thriving as much as she can with this horrible disease. We COMPLETELY understand that self-injurious talk needs to be taken very seriously for the safety of the person, other residents, and the staff. Now given our experience with another care facility we better understand there are other ways this care is provided across the industry. We are still searching for answers as to why she returned unable to walk and there seemed to be limited or no care or transition planning. We understand the challenges inherent to the care industry but for us this fell well below an acceptable level of minimum care. This is simply the perspective of one family experience sharing with others.

Wonderful staff @ Brookdale Deer Creek! Suzanne O'Neil and the staff are so welcoming. We were so happy to select Brookdale Deer Creek memory care for our sweet dad. They truly care for all their residents and treat them like family.

Mom has been in Brookdale Deer Creek , a memory care facility, for a little over a year. Overall, the staff is good, the facility is thoughtfully laid out and of relatively small size. They have activities almost every day for the residents. there is a small outdoor garden that the residents can use. Before choosing a facility for a loved one, take a tour of Brookdale Deer Creek.

Brookdale Deer Creek is where my father is residing and is being very welled cared for. The manager, Neema, of the community is so vested in the well being of the residents. I can not say enough great things about her and all the staff, who are so easy to communicate with. They made sure my father is receiving his physical therapy. My dads room is clean and feels very comfortable. I am really happy with the care my dad receives!
