BROOKDALE SUMMER RIDGE

My frail, elderly father in law who has been diagnosed to lack capacity with moderate dementia called Brookdale from the current assisted living facility he resides at. He exhibits many common behaviors of dementia, including wanting to move anywhere else but his current facility. We also have a guardianship in process with the courts. Unknowingly to us, Brookdale sent their bus to pick him up and take him to “tour” their facility without letting anyone know! He has no identification, no money, no cell phone, and no medications with him! When I called Brookdale to inquire about how this happened, an employee of Brookdale who is actually familiar with my father in law and is aware of his cognitive decline and lack of decision making capabilities attempted to defend their actions. It’s hard to fathom that something like this really happened and fortunately he made it back safely. We’ll be exploring options to keep this from happening to others. I’m not one to typically leave a review but this is unacceptable and others need to be aware.

My Mother was at Brookdale in Rockwall 4 months in 2025. After moving in, her health started failing and she required much more care. The employees taking care of my Mother were wonderful and really treated her like she was their grandmother. The problem was lack of employees to care for the residents. A week before she passed away, I was there visiting her for a few days (I live in Oklahoma) and at that point, Mother needed alot of help that she was paying dearly for. On a Friday evening, with 70 residents, there were 2 aides working. It was taking 20-30 minutes to get anyone to come to the room. Since we were paying $6000+ for care, I expected much more from them. I was also very disappointed in management particularly, the director. I will warn anyone on auto-pay that if your loved one passes away, cancel that auto-pay immediately. I failed to do this and even though my Mother passed away in July, Brookdale took almost $6000 from my Mother's checking account for services in August that she wasn't even there for. It took almost 2 months to have those funds reimbursed to her Estate. If Mother had lived longer, I would have moved her because Brookdale in Rockwall just wasn't prepared to be a facility where, if someone needs alot of care, they could provide it.

My dad started living at Brookdale four years ago. He is very happy and loves all of the residents and employees. Everyone is kind and take very good care of him. It helps my sister and I to sleep better at night knowing that he is taken care of. Thank you, Brookdale!

Since the time mom arrived she has enjoyed and loved the people she has come in contact with. She loves the staff. I have been impressed with the smiles and greetings plus the attentiveness to request in a timely fashion.

My mom chose Brookdale Summer Ridge over other assisted living facilities in Rockwall, TX, and it quickly became clear why. The staff is genuinely kind and caring—they go above and beyond to make residents feel safe and supported. The community itself is warm and welcoming, with friendly residents who truly seem to enjoy life there. While it may not be the newest facility in town, we’ve come to realize that happiness doesn’t come from the building itself, but from the people inside. Brookdale Summer Ridge has heart, and that’s what matters most.
