We seriously considered Carillon Living for our loved one, and I am honestly so grateful we trusted our gut and chose Brookdale Assisted Living instead. My family & I made several attempts to call the facility & the Director was never present, when we finally reached someone we were met with an attitude & tone as if we were aggravating them! It wasn’t a great feeling to have. I must admit that was one of the biggest red flags for us We chose a different path, and we’re thankful every day that we did.

My mom was a resident of this facility’s memory care unit for almost a year before she passed away recently. I moved her to this memory care from an assisted living facility in Raleigh. I cannot say enough about the team who took care of her— from the assistant in the office, to the director, to the head nurse, to the facility caretaker, to the entire care team, it felt as if they truly loved her. I could not have taken care of my mom without the team at Calyx. It’s always hard to know if you’re choosing the right facility. I looked at many in Raleigh, Carey, Durham, and Chapel Hill. I was fortunate to land here. Thank you.

I recently joined a friend on a tour of Calyx Living on Guess Road and was truly touched by what we experienced. This charming, vibrant community felt more like a welcoming retreat than a care facility. The décor was tasteful, the lighting bright, and the atmosphere full of life. During our visit, residents were enjoying a watercolor class—it was joyful and inspiring. The young woman who gave us the tour couldn’t have been kinder, and her genuine care for the residents shone through. Calyx Living is a true gem in Durham—warm, engaging, and surprisingly affordable. When the time comes for my own parents to need support, I’ll feel grateful knowing places like this exist.

My dad has lived at Calyx for just over two years now, and we have found the community to be warm, welcoming, and caring. The team at Calyx clearly see my dad as an individual, respecting his independence and individuality while also providing support as needed. (Dad particularly loves the walking path around Calyx and the multitude of porch-sitting options!) As family members, we also feel welcome at Calyx and have enjoyed wonderful family dinners and other intergenerational events there. We are grateful to the Calyx management and staff for all they do and would recommend this community to others who are looking for a safe, comfortable, kind place for themselves or their loved ones.

Terrible staffing issues. Pathetic at following through with calls for help. My husband has an AVERAGE response time of over 2 hours every time he rings for help. Pathetic upper management. Lazy caregivers - and extremely sloppy in housekeeping. Actually had to wake up his caregiver to ask her how he fell in the shower that morning??? She was asleep at the nurses station. Example #1 I picked up my husband on Friday AM for the weekend. Sheets were removed from his bed to be laundered. Returned 9:30 pm Sunday evening. No sheets on bed. I went hunting and found them mildewed in the WASHING MACHINE. They sat they’re for 3 days wet!! Bathroom was also mildewed due to several soaking wet towels on the shower seat from his THURSDAY shower. Unbelievable. Example #2 Most recently I picked him up for a weekend visit and he was out of 3 of his 6 medications. WTH?? They had to call them into my pharmacy over 40 miles away so he would be properly medicated. I would not let them supervise my goldfish. He’s moving out this week!!!
