CARLTON PLAZA OF DAVIS

My parents have been at the Carlton for a few months now. My sisters and I have been so grateful to everyone there, particularly for their flexibility during a couple of challenging situations and their genuine appreciation of and care for our parents. One of the reasons we chose the Carlton over others was that they offer a transitional model of care for dementia residents…which means that our mom (who has dementia) can actually live with my dad (who doesn’t) in the regular area, but go to memory care during the day if they wish (which she loves). Special shout-out to Mina, who has gone above and beyond to help my parents settle in. Only minus is wish they had a bigger elevator somewhere on the premises to assist with moving in. Our movers had to walk my parents’ very heavy, admittedly large sofa up the stairs because it wouldn’t fit in any of the elevators. (We tipped them well!)

My mother has been at Carlton for 5 months in independent living. Prior to that, she lived in her house, alone, ever since my father passed two years ago. She is adjusting very well, better than expected, primarily due to the excellent care and attention she receives from the Carlton staff. Many senior living facilities have a limited number of staff available at any given time. Not Carlton. There is a nurse available to residents, and her service is included in monthly fees. Administrative staff are always at the front desk, from early in the morning until 9PM each day. There have been some minor emergencies with my mother over the last 5 months. Carlton was always there to take care of her quickly and efficiently. I would highly recommend Carlton Senior Living in Davis for your loved one.

Our Carlton experience has been ongoing and positive. My husband and love of my life has been in Memory Care for 5 months. We have been cared for by so many wonderful people throughout the system: memory care, counseling, dining, events, advice and help with just about everything for my husband as well as for myself. This road of memory and physical changes for my spouse has has been tough on him and myself. The ongoing hugs and compassionate sharing have made this a bit easier. Coming from home to a memory care unit was frightening though these wonderful people have helped me get through each stage of loss with thoughtfulness, kindness and strength. The facility is well cared for with constant upgrades. The maintenance staff pitched in to make our transition easier. The whole staff has been next to none. They are always training in kindness care for clients and their families. From the many introduction tours by staff (Innes and Jesse) to the welcome by the memory care director and care personnel manager (Kayla) and the pet parent Genai our Memory Care Activity Manager and Counseling supervisor (Jess) and even the sweet and approachable chef extraordinaire, Elvin who helps prepare delicious specially prepared food for my husband. The medication team has shown so many wonderful traits in helping their clients receive their prescribed meds in a timely manner. I have been so impressed with their constant communication with one another for assistance. This road through dementia is not taken lightly by these people. They really care and try to lighten our load both physically and emotionally. Another shout out to the Yolo Hospice who team with the Carlton team to help care for my husband and myself.

I toured 4 facilities when considering the best fit for my mom and Carlton definitely stood out! It was by far the nicest looking, most comfortable, clean, modern facility. Speaking to the staff and hearing about the daily schedules and activities was very reassuring. They really seem to have the resident in mind and making sure they are stimulated with positive yet slower paced options pretty much all day long. I was very worried about my mother's cooperation to willingly move into the memory care unit and was shocked and amazed to see how wonderfully it all went, giving much credit to the experienced staff. My mom loves living here and raves about her new friends (the care givers) everytime I visit. We are very thrilled with our choice!!

My wife spent three years in the Memory Care unit at Carlton Senior Living-Davis. I was impressed by the professionalism, competence and, above all, the compassion of the staff. In many ways she and I were treated as family. In the many occasions I visited my wife I observed how all residents were treated with respect and understanding. The staff seem to know how to defuse each occasional difficult situation without infringing on the residents' dignity. In the last days of my wife's life the staff made sure she was comfortable and pain-free. I am grateful to everybody at Carlton-Davis for the care given to my wife.
