I am writing this to warn other families: Do not send your loved ones here. My grandfather, who was fully ambulatory, was at this facility for less than a month before he sustained a fall. This was not a random accident; it was a total failure of management and care. Leading up to this incident, our family repeatedly raised specific safety concerns. Whether we were speaking as worried family members or as POA, our voices were completely ignored. There was zero support, zero follow up, and zero accountability. They waited for a tragedy to happen rather than listening to the people who know the patient best. If you are looking for end of life care that offers dignity, safety, and respect, look elsewhere. There are far better options in Lake County that actually prioritize the well being of their residents. This facility failed my grandfather, and they failed our family.

Do not send your loved ones here!!! Especially to their memory care. My grandma was there for less than 3 months before she passed. She was fully ambulatory and physically healthy when she moved in. 3 months there was enough to kill her. They prefer their memory care patients to be sitting in their wheelchairs and not moving. If your loved one is ambulatory do not bring them here. No supervision or care. Staff would just sit at the desk on their phones. What is the point of memory care with no staff supervision? They tried to upsell 1:1 care (for an additional 60k a year, on top of the 12k already a month), because the staff is so incompetent. Also her room was barely cleaned. There were some good workers, but not enough. Another example of money not going into the employees but owners/management. 0/10 would never recommend.

This place will promise you the world when you tour it, but as soon as your loved one moves in and they start collecting payment, the care and attention disappear. We moved my aunt, who has Alzheimer’s, into the memory care unit last December. Since then, the level of neglect we’ve witnessed has been unacceptable. My aunt went almost 14 days without a shower—yes, 14. She was left to sit in her own filth and began to smell horribly. When my sister inquired, staff told us that my aunt “has rights” and “refused to bathe.” We fully understand that residents have rights, but my aunt has Alzheimer’s. How many days should someone be allowed to sit in the same soiled clothing before it becomes neglect? Another incident: my aunt became dizzy, nauseous, and unable to get out of bed. No one from the facility contacted me or my sister, even though we are her court-appointed guardians. I had to leave work, rush to the facility, and call 911 myself before anyone on staff showed concern. More recently, we discovered that both sets of my aunt’s bed sheets were missing, and she was sleeping directly on the bare mattress. When we found a nurse to ask about it, we literally had to wake him up—and he pretended not to know anything. A CNA tried to excuse it by saying it was “laundry day.” It was Sunday. Her laundry day is Wednesday. Nice try. Staff claim that residents’ rooms are cleaned weekly, but we’ve repeatedly found moldy food hidden in her room. This isn’t her fault—she can’t remember—but it is absolutely the facility’s responsibility to check and clean properly. Every time our family visits, the residents are drugged up, silent, and parked in front of the TV, which seems to be exactly how the staff prefer it—quiet residents mean less work for them. Our family is now looking for a new, more attentive and compassionate facility for my aunt. Please think carefully before trusting your loved one’s care to this place.

StoryPoint Schererville has given Mom a new lease on life. The staff are all so kind and accommodating. She loves all the activities (especially workouts with Patrick) and special events as well as the planned outings. I love how creative the staff is in coming up with celebrations , entertainment and food activities that engage and enhance the experience of living there. Living 1000 miles away from Mom, I am able to have peace of mind that she is happy, safe, has friends and is enjoying her later years of life .

What an absolutely wonderful facility! I can’t say enough positive things ………… having had my parents in various facilities for rehab and short term stays, I am very familiar with where others “fail or fall short” of providing concern, attention, and genuine care to their residents, where cleanliness can be, and sadly was an ongoing issue for me, and a true desire to enhance the lives of their residents was, in my opinion, not at all evident. I found this facility and the staff to be the cream of the crop! They are very best in the industry, well educated, trained, compassionate, and it’s so obvious that each employee really does genuinely care about providing a “home” to the residents. They don’t just provide a home, they provide an unsurpassed level of care and an environment that echoes family. The facility is clean, the food is excellent, the available activities are well planned and planned so that the residents can participate and enjoy the interaction. Do not hesitate to visit Schererville Story Point if you find yourself in the position to find help with a loved one. You will be giving them an unsurpassed quality of life!
