We moved our father from the hospital to Covenant Shores and clearly informed the staff about his serious heart condition, emphasizing the importance of closely monitoring his weight. Over just four days, he gained 14 pounds. We visited every single day and reviewed his chart ourselves. The chart showed no significant weight change until the fourth day, when it suddenly reflected a 10-pound gain. No one contacted us. No one expressed concern. Alarmed, we examined our father ourselves and discovered his feet and legs were massively swollen. This was on a Saturday. When we called the head weekend nurse, he was not at all alarmed. We demanded that a doctor be contacted, but were told that no doctor responded because it was the weekend. To make matters worse, the room smelled like urine, and his medications were disorganized. While weekday care had seemed acceptable, the weekend care was completely unacceptable. Fearing for our father’s life, we called 911 and had him transported back to the emergency room. In the first day alone, doctors removed 7 pounds of excess fluid. That fact speaks for itself. This was outrageous and dangerous negligence. If you place a loved one at Covenant Shores, do not rely on what you are told. Go every day. Look at the charts. Look at their body. Ask questions. Trust your own eyes. Never again will we allow this kind of treatment to happen to our family.

The facility looks beautiful, but the care is deeply lacking. Bedpans are sometimes left full for two days, and call lights can go unanswered for hours. Getting help on the weekend is nearly impossible. Some staff members who are fully capable become impatient or rude with residents who have limited mobility or cognitive function. They often stay hidden behind office doors and act annoyed when asked to assist. Residents should always be the top priority, but too often it seems the staff would rather avoid them.

My Mom has been rehabilitating from a stroke. We have received the best care at Covenant Living. The rehab directors Diana and Jean are extremely skilled at what they do. They also are incredibly kind and patient with my Mom. The nursing staff is also fantastic and have been very attentive throughout the night. Peggy and Josephine have prayed with my Mom when she gets anxious in the middle of the night. Neke, Irene and Mark have done a great job at managing her medications. I have a super demanding job and am so grateful for the great care she is receiving.
