Demaree Crossing Assisted Living And Memory Care

My mother was a resident of the Memory Care unit for 16 months. We picked this location because the facility was beautiful, and we had a lot of promises of care for her. They were also reasonably priced considering the other facilities nearby. There have been some ups and many downs during the last 16 months. We just moved our mother to another facility this week to be closer to family after her husband who was battling terminal cancer passed away. She was in Greenwood to be close to him. We would have moved her sooner but wanted her to be closer to her husband during his final year of life. If we had to choose all over again, we would not choose Demaree. There have been many valuable employees over this last year. Employees who care about the residents. Our family built relationships and trust with those employees that cared for our loved one. However, the facility and the Executive Director (ED) who started last summer do not hold onto to the wonderful employees. The turnover is absolutely appalling. Since the current ED started last July, every single Director on her leadership team was fired, resigned, or was downsized. (exception, Director of Maintenance). During our 16 months in Demaree – we had 4 Directors of Memory Care. The major issues we faced were errors with our mother’s medication. Multiple errors. Such as new orders from the outsourced providers being lost multiple times. After a stay in the hospital when our mother’s medicine was greatly changed, the facility FAILED to make the changes in her chart. For 2 weeks our mother received the wrong medications until our family discovered it. The worst issue was our mother received another resident’s new medication for multiple days… a medication she should not have been on, and had bad side effects for her.. once again that was found by the family. The staff do mean well, and try their best, but sometimes they are short staffed. During a behavior issue of my mother’s over a long weekend where she kept getting in the shower and caused floods in the bathroom, we were told we needed to either stay with her or hire a private nurse because they were too short staffed for the weekend to deal with her. That was the only solution they offered. Instead, we had a family member come and remove the shower head to prevent the issue. Problem solved by family. The current ED, is unfriendly, doesn’t speak to any family unless spoken too, and seems to actively avoid most all others. If you reach out to her via email, you might as well plan on waiting a day or two, then calling and getting a nice person at the Concierge desk to track her down and ask her to respond to the email. Forget trying to talk to her on the phone, she was never available to talk, you will be asked to email. I will truly miss several employees that we have built relationships with as they did their best to care for our mother. For those employees that have moved on… I understand why. For those employees that are still there, I truly hope things get better for you as an employee of Demaree, if not, look me up, I’m happy to give you a reference for a new job. They constantly ask family for google reviews, however, while my mother was a resident, I didn’t think I could leave an honest review with her still living there. So, this is my honest review.

My mother really is loving it here. The staff is very friendly and the residents are happy and welcoming. The thing I would love to see is more of a social media presence. I would like to see the monthly activity calendar posted on Facebook so that the family can always know what is coming up. I would like to be able to call her and say that I can see what's going on today and think she would enjoy it. I can't always get there at the beginning of the month to take my own picture. She likes to have her picture taken and shared also. She likes for her friends and family from out of state to see how much fun she is having.

We enjoyed the Thanksgiving event at Demaree Crossing with my mom. The decorations were very nice, and the setup was good for the high participation. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, and the portions were a little small for the price. However, the staff were friendly and helpful, as they always are! The atmosphere is clean, bright, inviting, and comfortable. Mom enjoys living there and has made many new friends. Her favorite day is craft day! We always love seeing the smile on her face and knowing that she is safe and cared for. Overall, we feel blessed that her home is at Demaree Crossing.

Demaree Crossing is THE BEST assisted living facility in Greenwood! Both of my grandmothers have now lived here and the experience both times has been truly wonderful. It truly is another home to our family. We recently moved one of my grandmothers in and Ryan and Jordan were extremely kind and helpful in that transition. They were understanding and always available to answer any questions we had. My grandmother loves the variety of activities that they offer, and Denise the activity director does a fabulous job at providing engaging, fun activities for all residents. Would highly recommend Demaree Crossing to everyone!!!

Demeree Crossing is a very nice place , I know my mother in law is in great hands. The place is very very clean. The staff is wonderful.(especially Denise and Debbie)They do crafts once a week, we played bingo they also have card games, they have entertainment .Movie night is always a big hit, At 10:30 they have sit and fit, There is so much here to do to keep my mother in law very busy, they also have a great menu , with a variety of food. I definitely would recommend this place. Everyone here is so friendly and the grounds are very pretty and welcoming
