After making the hard decision in January,2020, that I could no longer care for my husband physically, I had to find a place for him . Luckily I was led to Divine Family Care Home. I met with Chris and then he came to our home to interview Bud. Divine was relatively new snd there was room. Before I went to view the facility, I called my sister who teaches geriatric nursing at a university. I asked her what to look for when I visited. Her first instruction was to take a deep breath upon entering. And so I did. The home was neat fresh and welcoming. It was exactly what I pictured for Bud. On February 2, my sons and I moved Bud into Divine. I left knowing that the staff was competent and he was safe. I wish I could say things went perfectly but I must be honest. Bud did not settle down and I lived in fear that Chris would call and tell me to come snd pick up Bud! Chris was always supportive and told me that Bud would settle down. Added to the situation was COVID. I had contact with Bud only through phone calls and video chats. I can’t say enough about the staff. They were/are phenomenal. Bud was neat snd clean whenever I saw him . He eventually settled in. His dementia grew worse but we could still communicate by phone. On his birthday, we brought a cake. We had to put it on the porch for them to get! Chris sent me pictures of a happy Bud! Toward the last part of the year, we were finally able to visit in person. We had a little over 4 months before he passed away. Chris and the staff have always been there for our family. They grieved with us and shared their stories of being with Bud. I promised Chris that I would tell my story on the website so that others who want a home for their loved one and not a facility could hear from one who took a chance and won the lottery!
