We made the difficult decision to remove our father after 189 days of residency. After speaking with staff and the HR department, it became clear that the environment was not welcoming to African Americans who are also members of the LGBTQ+ community. In the current climate of our country, this is absolutely unacceptable. Every individual deserves dignity, respect, and equal treatment — especially in a place that claims to operate with values and compassion. We have since found a new home for our father where he can live in peace, safety, and without judgment. Unfortunately, that place is not one of faith.
