We have had residents at The Gables since its original name: Edenbrooke. While no facility is perfect we have found a second home here for our family members (8+ family and friends). Seeing both sides over the years I consistently see familiar faces, and this is 20 years worth of time. Assisted Living is clean and smells kept. There are staff around each corner throughout the week and on weekends it is easy to find someone to assist if needed. There was a period of time several years ago I couldn’t say the food was spectacular. But it has improved as they have hired new staff. The waiters and waitresses aim to understand the preferences of their residents that are taking care of serving and are friendly beyond only handing out food. The business office is always helpful and quick to hear any concerns I have. On several occasions they have reminded me that we should always receive the services we pay for and if we are not they need to fix this immediately. We do feel they want the best for their residents. Jordaun, who does the tours and sales, went above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly moving my in laws in this last year. She also was there as we walked through the death of our very beloved Grandmother. She saw how difficult this was for me to be back in memory care so soon after her passing to move in my in laws and quickly came in for a hug and encouraging words. Truly, they are family. Their “reflections” memory care unit at times can be tricky to assess, although I have not ever wavered in the assurance my family is being taken care of. There are so many needs among those residents. There have been a few issues we have had to address but as I said before, they take ownership of services we pay for and insist they fix it on their end. For instance, laundry was inconsistent. I addressed this concern and while we are still adjusting we worked through underlying issues and the business office manager, Michelle, has followed through with checking on me with these concerns to ensure I felt it was being handled. They have also worked closely with us to best aide in the care of my in laws. With dementia and Alzheimer’s comes odd behaviors, concerning decline and physical limitations. They are working with us to keep my in laws safe and best meet new needs that arise. Activities are predictable and consistent. Nicole and Riley are positive, upbeat and take time to get to know residents to find out what activities they enjoy. Taking that Intel they look for others residents they may enjoy connecting with too. Mel, the director, has taken a lot of time to talk with my husband and I about his parents needs. She is responsive and hospitable to let me ask her a question or two if needed at her office door. She works late hours to ensure things are run and takes ownership of any of the facilities shortcomings. The nursing staff have been courteous and on top of any medical concerns we or they have. This is the same with techs and staff members who tend to residents needs. Being there as long as we have we know several by name and they know us too. There are so may I could name and shout-out. Most all of the staff (old and new) know the personalities and needs of their residents. They know their schedules and preferences too. Again, during my Grandmothers passing many of the staff visited with us and gave the warmest hugs. They knew not only what she meant to us but what she meant to them. This speaks volumes to me as a family member. I can understand if all this feels too good to be true. Of course there have been bad apples or experiences we have needed to address. No facility will be perfect, but follow through, hospitality, attention to concerns, long time staff, caring staff, cleanliness and opportunities for residents to be active and stay busy are a few key points the things to look. For us, we’ve found this with The Gables, our second family for our aging family, for the last 20+ years.

My Mother-in-law and Father-in-Law have lived at the Gable of Tallahassee for 2 months now. It has been a nightmare !! First there were bugs flying around , now yesterday an alarm went off every 2 minutes for a fire alarm system. It started at 9:30 am until 3:30 in each room and the entire place .. No warning ahead of time and extremely loud. No staff anywhere! Also, last night they put my in laws to bed at 7:30 pm and my father -in -law got up at 1:30 am in the morning and there was flooding all through the unit and no one came in to address it after my mother-in-law, who cannot walk well was pushing her botton and trying to scream and no one came for 30 minutes. When they did, no one cleaned or dried the floor. This has been so stressful and not what I expected at all !!!! Terrible assisted living place. Nice to look at but terrible staff or not enough!! The food is good 2 out of 5 days in a row. So sad because this is a beautiful place to have this many problems !!! No one listens when you try and talk to them. This should NOT happen with elderly people that are vulnerable. So sad at this time of life !!

Harbor Chase was a wonderful residence for our Mother. The environment, food, entertainment, accommodations, security and assistance were exceptional. The staff was always very kind and helpful for which our family is extremely thankful. A special thanks to DeeDee for her loving care for our Mother.

Harbor Chase is a wonderful place to stay. Since they have the new Director, Tricia Jarry, the place has been so clean and doesn't smell like urine especially the memory care. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay. Fiona Balandra-Andrews DPT

Dear Harbor Chase management and staff, We, John and Mieke Westbroek from the Netherlands, heard this morning that our half-brother Bernie Zeegers passed away in peace last night. We had only been aware of its existence for a few years. Fortunately, we have been able to visit him for the past 2 years with your help. We saw how kind and sweet you dealt with all residents of HC. This year we could not go to America in connection with Covid-19. Because Bernie has passed away, we will probably never visit HC again. We would like to thank everyone for the dedicated care you gave to Bernie. We are all very grateful to you. A big hug and a sweet kiss from us to all of you. With love ...... John and Mieke
