Jeff O. You're not lying or wrong about anything you mentioned. Unfortunately it doesn't matter which Hillcrest you are at they are all heavily plagued with the problems you mentioned as well as other problems. I would never consider Hillcrest for myself or a family member even if I didn't have the option. Until management is replaced and decent individuals are hired to do these jobs the problems will continue and probably get worse. Unfortunately by then it may be too late for the individuals involved. Take the time and research other options because I have no doubt that nothing will change the way things are done by Hillcrest at any of their facilities.

Do not let the new buildings, fresh décor, and nice appearance fool you. In our experience, the problems at Hillcrest Highlands of Gretna run much deeper. The facility appears severely understaffed, and the level of day-to-day attention residents receive does not match the image presented during tours or on the website. One very troubling incident involved my mother being left sitting in her wheelchair at the lunch table after she had spilled on herself. She sat there for nearly two hours before anyone noticed her. By that time she had fallen asleep in the chair. The only reason she was eventually discovered was because her hospice nurse happened to arrive. Otherwise, it is unclear how long she might have remained there. Medication oversight was also a serious concern. My mother required periodic hemoglobin checks, and one of those checks was missed entirely. That oversight ultimately resulted in her spending three days in the ER. Situations like that are not minor administrative mistakes. They can have serious consequences for residents. Another extremely concerning issue was theft. During our time there, items repeatedly went missing from my mother’s room. Cash, gift cards, and pieces of jewelry disappeared. Some of these items were intentionally hidden due to earlier concerns about theft, yet they were still taken. Losing personal belongings is frustrating. When it involves vulnerable residents in a care facility, it is unacceptable. Families should also understand the financial side of how the community operates. If a resident passes away near the end of the month, families are expected to clear out the room before the next month begins or be charged for another full month. Combined with the care issues we experienced, it leaves the strong impression that financial considerations come before resident care. The building may be new and attractive, but the level of care we experienced was no better than what you would expect from an older or far less expensive community. Families considering Hillcrest Highlands of Gretna should ask very direct questions about staffing levels, medication oversight, and security before making a decision. Our experience was deeply disappointing, and I would encourage anyone considering this facility to look beyond appearances and do thorough research before trusting them with a loved one. If management at Hillcrest Highlands of Gretna would like to explain how situations like this happen, or what steps they are taking to ensure residents are not left unattended for long periods of time, families would certainly appreciate hearing that response.
