My mother, Virginia, was a resident at Hughes Home, now known as H.H. River House, from June 2005 to August 2011. The experience was far above and beyond anything I could have hoped for. My became the hands-on favorite with the nurses and staff. Daryl, Debbie, Wally, and their parents, Lorraine and Wally, Sr. became family to me. Hughes Home was the closest thing I could imagine to Heaven on Earth during my mother's final years.

I will carry the gratitude and appreciation that I have for Hughes Home, and the care that they provided my Mom for close to 2 years for the rest of my life. I've known Daryl (the owner) since our school days at Stafford and he is the same caring and honest guy that I knew as a kid. His personality and professionalism translates to his employees, and his DON, Mau, is just awesome along with her staff. I know that my Mom was a high maintenance patient with tons of energy and spunk until the end, and never did they complain or speak in a negative manor concerning her care. They treated my family with utmost respect and as a lifetime Fredericksburg resident I am so happy that we have a local assisted living facility with local people that will care for our loved ones in time of need. To further enhance my appreciation for Hughes Home, I recently received a text from Mau checking on myself and our family. Mom has been gone for 4 months now, so this truly shows me how much they really care about their residents and their families. Thank you Hughes Home from the bottom of my heart! Steve Wood

There are not enough words to express how much we love Hughes Home and every single member of the family there. Our family had to make the hard decision of placing my grandmother, Ms. Scott somewhere she could have 24 hour care. She was a sweet but a feisty one for sure, and sometimes we worried she may be giving them too much of a hard time. But the outpour of love and patience each nurse showed her was truly amazing. We are so very thankful for all of the love and care they gave her during her last year here with us. They will all forever hold a spot in our hearts and family. If you are like we were, and are nervous about making this decision - rest assured that if you choose to place your loved one at Hughes Home, it will be the right decision and they will love them with all of their hearts.

I wanted to share a review, as a Hospice nurse that works in many facilities in the area. I have seen an incredible depth of care and kindness from the staff at Hughes Home during my visits there. During the most difficult time a family faces, when a loved one is nearing the end, the staff shows how much they care with such grace. I've seen flowers or a favorite stuffed animal left with the resident after passing, showing how important each person is to the staff. It is a small detail that I don't see everywhere and it doesn't go unnoticed.

I moved my brother to Hughes Home a few weeks ago. The staff have been wonderful to my brother and his family. I am a retired nurse and have worked with many health care workers and the health care workers at Hughes Home are great! I know a facility accepting a new resident absolutely must have the medical papers prior to admission to provide safe care. I’m sorry any person has to wait for a bed but this is to provide the proper care for them once they arrive.
