Thought we made the right choice or mom. Everything appeared so perfect. The staff, the food, living space… . Then reality. Charge twice for initial fee. 25 days in, sent to the hospital as a Jane Doe. 27 days between hospital and rehab. Two weeks later another ambulance trip to the hospital. Another 5 days pass and back to the hospital and no notification at all. Show up for a visit and find out, thanks for letting me know. So concern runs high. Between hospital trips stay overnight and discover that medication not administered. Facility admits may be more than they can provide. Add nursing at mom’s expense. Policy reimburses the care level fee after 14 days. Three months and can’t get any confirmation on credit amount. Mom moved out after spending $1,000’s on hospital and additional nursing. Still no credit issued for care fee. No credit for double charge of initial fee. Finally get a check but comes up short. Ledger shows charges for an extra day 2 weeks after moving out. Sad they need money from an 87 yo woman.

Looking into for a relative. Heidi gave us a tour. Very thorough and gave us information as to VA benefits were weren’t aware of. What we found was a place we’d be very happy in. Units are large, bright, and pet friendly! They are adding a new dog park to the grounds. The restaurant style dining room is beautiful. Atrium ceilings. But having past experience with independent and assisted living facilities for other family members, the big draw is the community. This is a community, everyone is engaged. Activities are plentiful and varied. Staff were fantastic, especially Heidi. Is it the Ritz? No. Is it a place I’d be happy to have a two bedroom 2.5 bath basically condo in with a screened porch over looking the pond. It sure is. We’ll be going to the Fat Tuesday party! The upcoming block party! We don’t live there yet, but we will. They always make us welcome.

This is one of the best facilities! The activities department is phenomenal. The residents always seem like they are having a great time!

I recently posted a negative review then spoke with new Management Co. (No longer Discovery Village!) They listened respectfully to my complaints ref housekeeping, condition of old carpets, safety of elevators, etc . I hear from residents that IMPROVEMENTS have already been made and others are in the works! I couldn't be happier for the residents!

My sister and I recently endeavored to research, visit and inquire of MANY assisted living facilities in Vero. As part of that search, we toured on several occasions-Discovery and there is a lot to like about Discovery. Since taking over as new management last April, they have spent money refreshing the large open lobby where residents tend to congregate to visit either before going into the large open dining room or to hear some music played on the piano. And they have more resident community rooms that will be refurbished over the coming year. As this building was a former condominium-the apartments are quite spacious, which is a plus. A negative for us was the unavoidable long walk of hallways to get to an apartment. We looked at two options, but, even the closest apartment to the activity areas would still be a long walk for a senior. Many residents used scooters, we saw. We were concerned our mom would feel isolated and not connected due to the distance separation from apartments to activity/dining areas. Another important component to consider when looking at various assisted living communities is to inquire about which type of licensing they have. There 3 different licenses we learned of as we toured different places in Vero. Discovery has a standard license. Ultimately, for our mom, we wanted more than that. For these reasons, we did not choose Discovery. And I would be remiss if I did not make mention that the sales staff that we spoke with and managers - on several of our visits-always were available to answer all our questions and made us feel welcome. My take always to share: Choosing assisted living for a loved one is an important decision-take the time to visit , try the food, ask questions and also observe the staff that will actually be interacting with your loved one. Because after they move in, those are the people that matter most! And make sure you clearly understand what services they can and can not provide.
