The staff at Kalakaua Gardens is wonderful ! Unfortunately, my mom fell while on vacation which required a surgery and now rehabilitation. Their kindness, compassion and knowledge of all things Medicare has been so remarkable! The communication and guidance has been reassuring as I navigate this situation so far from home! Feel confident in having your loved one come here because they treat you like family. 💕

It’s clear from my experience that the reputation of this place is deserved, and frankly, I feel for anyone who has to leave their loved ones here. The unfortunate reality is that it seems their primary concern is money. The way the front desk staff and security interact with people is unacceptable. I had an unpleasant encounter with a masculine looking women and several front desk employees, where they began aggressively lecturing me about their policies as if I should have known them already. This was my first time there, and I had to ask her to lower her voice because her tone was completely unprofessional. She spoke to me as though I should have been familiar with their internal procedures, which was both condescending and inappropriate. While the facility may appear clean and well-maintained, the level of care and respect shown to families is severely lacking. I've visited much older facilities that provided far superior care and treated their residents and families with far more dignity and respect. Don’t be misled by the outward appearance—this place is not what it seems, and I strongly suggest exploring other options for your loved ones.

A retirement home that offers several levels of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing (from least care to the most). One of the directors even has his relative in the building. That is a good sign of trust in the service.

I've visited my uncle numerous times and was surprised how often residents are simply ignored. Many times nurses are locked in their glass office glued to their computers while residents are lefty unattended. I always feel like I'm on duty as I have to make sure the residents present don't fall off their wheelchairs and taken to the bathroom. I have also previously reviews that were deleted from the website. We're working on having my uncle removed as soon as possible

This building is excellent and staff are very warm, nice and caring. My Grandmother just moved in a month ago and every time I visited I was surprised by how the staff to resident ratio is so good and perhaps because of that, the staff are super friendly and helpful, not rushed and stressed. A great location in Honolulu as well for family on both sides of Honolulu to visit.
