This place is way understaffed. My husband only stayed a few days because of the extreme neglect in this place. He fell twice, and the staff knew nothing about it because no one ever came into his room, and that includes housekeeping. His room was a mess! He had a newly placed trach, and we were assured Lakeside could handle the frequent care required. There was one overworked LPN on his wing, and it could take an hour for her to answer his bell. His trach was somehow removed, and Lakeside did not have the right size replacement, so they had to call 911 during an ice storm. If your loved one needs pulmonary care, this is not the place for them. We moved to Canterbury which has a wing dedicated to trach care with respiratory therapy techs on the wing 24 hours a day. I am shocked that a hospital care coordinator would steer us to such a poorly run rehab like Lakeside. Those coordinators need to start visiting places to confirm that conditions are fit for vulnerable patients.

I called at the beginning of the week requesting a follow-up call to schedule a meeting. It is now Friday and no one has called me back. That alone speaks volumes. During my initial call, Nivea and Sabre (not sure of spelling) were extremely rude and dismissive. They tried to push a meeting date and time without any regard for my mother’s schedule, clearly just trying to get me off the phone rather than actually help. There was no care, compassion, or professionalism. Once my mother was admitted, multiple issues became very clear. I have personally been on video calls where my mother left to use the restroom and returned to find her dinner plate removed, causing her to miss her meal. That is unacceptable. The facility itself is poorly maintained. There are visible spots and stains on the ceiling that appear to be from leaks, and when you walk in, the building needs to be cleaned, swept, and properly maintained. It does not feel sanitary or well cared for. There is also obvious favoritism, and it shows. Before admitting my mother, important details were not explained, and I felt rushed through the process when I had other options available for her care. Overall, this experience has been extremely disappointing. Poor communication, rude staff, lack of transparency, and inadequate care are not things any family should have to deal with.

I am extremely disappointed with the care my husband received at this nursing home. He was discharged in poor and unsafe condition. He was very dirty, extremely skinny, and it was clear that his hair had not been washed for a long time. His nails and hair were never cut, showing a serious lack of basic hygiene and personal care. Even worse, he was discharged unsafely before his hospital bed had arrived. Despite knowing his medical condition and limited mobility, staff placed him in a regular bed, which put him at risk for injury and complications. This decision showed poor judgment and a lack of concern for patient safety. This experience was heartbreaking for our family. No patient—especially someone who is disabled and vulnerable—should ever be discharged in this condition. Families trust nursing homes to provide dignity, cleanliness, and safe care, and this facility failed on all counts. I would not recommend this nursing home to anyone. If I can give zero star I will.

Our mom came to Lakeside and within a week we saw a difference in her. Thanks to the nursing staff who had taken such great care of our mother.
