Heartbreaking Experience with Legacy Heights Memory Care. My family and I are devastated by the experience we had at Legacy Heights Memory Care, and I feel it’s my responsibility to share what happened so that others can make fully informed decisions. After more than 15 years of caring for my mom at home with early-onset Alzheimer's, we made the incredibly difficult decision to transition her to a facility. Legacy Heights Senior Living Facility came highly recommended and were told they had a memory care unit. After visiting over a dozen places, we chose them based on the assurances we received about the level of personalized care they could provide. When my mom was admitted, she was stable—eating well (with assistance), drinking fluids through a straw, continent when assisted to the restroom every two hours, good weight, and able to walk short distances with support. We were told they could continue the same routine: regular meals, 1 nutritional shake daily, hydration, repositioning, bathroom assistance, showers twice a week, and meaningful wakeful hours during the day. For the first week or so, things seemed to be going well. But slowly, we started noticing alarming changes. Staff began keeping her in bed most of the day out of fear she would fall from her wheelchair. They let her sleep through meals rather than waking her. The regular showers we were promised (and paid for) did not happen because they claimed she was “more difficult” than other residents. And even when she was in her recliner, she was often left in a dim room with no stimulation—despite our repeated requests for music or TV. We addressed these issues repeatedly with Chris, the manager, through calls, emails, and in-person meetings. Each time, we were assured changes would be made. But nothing improved. In fact, things got worse. On day 30, we received the first phone call informing us that my mom "wasn’t eating." Just two days later, she was sent to the hospital. In the ER, we were told she was severely dehydrated, had a UTI, a kidney infection, and pneumonia. She passed away three days later. We understand that Alzheimer's is a cruel and progressive disease. But we also know—without any doubt—that the level of neglect my mom experienced at Legacy Heights directly contributed to her rapid decline and death. She was in their care for barely a month. This facility promised us they could give her the same care we provided at home. That promise was broken. And the consequences were irreversible. Please think twice before trusting Legacy Heights with your loved one. Our hearts are broken.

My family and I are very grateful for the staff and facilities at Legacy Heights and we can’t thank them enough. I am so happy we found this place because the whole situation was rough - just due to the nature of placing a family member in assisted care. Everyone has been extremely helpful and patient throughout the entire process. The facilities are very nice and clean- they resemble a hotel or bed and breakfast. I don’t hear of any complaints about the food. When we come by to visit, I can smell the food cooking and it smells really good. I would like to and hope to retire here when it’s my turn!

I recently had to make the heartbreaking decision to place my Mother in a memory care residence. I visited many memory care facilities in the area and immediately felt at peace after meeting with Monica and Chris and making the decision to move Mother to Legacy Heights. The entire staff is so warm and welcoming and loving to both the residents , as well as to their loved ones. They have been so patient with my Mother as she has been making the transition to her new home and have treated her as if she were their family . There are lots of fun activities for the residents to enjoy and the facility is so bright and cheery and clean. It’s just a great atmosphere , not only to live in, but for friends and family to visit. Mother’s care givers, as well as Chris, the director, have been so communicative with me. I do not worry when I am out of town, as I know that she is in good hands. It saddens me that my sweet Mother has this awful disease of dementia but am so thankful that she can live at Legacy Heights where she is safe, well-cared for, and loved. She and I have been blessed by the Legacy Heights family

Chris and Monica at Legacy heights, were great to work with. The senior living community is beautiful on the inside and the outdoor view is nice. My mother loves her new home and the activities!

If I could give them a 10, I would. My mom is 98 and we struggled at the beginning of the pandemic to find a place for her. We tried another place where she was miserable. So we tried again with Legacy Heights. She came in with a lot of care needs. At this point her health and her attitude have improved so much that she needs very little care. She does the exercise classes and that has really brought her back to health. She loves the food and the staff and is making friends. The staff is so responsive and kind to her. Is it perfect? No. But when something doesn’t work, we ask for help and they address it. So different than the other facility she tried. It’s a beautiful facility, freshly painted and carpeted. It doesn’t smell or feel institutional. It has a homey feel with lovely, updated decor. She plays bingo, goes to the theater, church service, happy hour, trivia, flower arranging, painting class, and so much more. Sometimes she’s the only one that shows up and they still indulge her. We had a family dinner there this past Sunday in a private dining area with a courtyard which was so pleasant for those of us from out of town. And while we were there, we had 6 different staff members come in to check on us and introduce themselves to the out of towners. I’m so impressed with the care and it continues to improve since the new administration has mobilized. I wish I could post her before and after photos. The pics are her room before the remodel. We marvel at how much better her quality of life is and she came from a lovely home with private duty nursing. Legacy Heights has been a Godsend.
