My family's experience with Legacy Memory Care at Kinston was deeply disappointing. After transferring my brother to another facility on May 12th, we were due a refund per the facility’s own policy and the guidelines set by the North Carolina Department of Social Services. Despite the clear policy, the refund process was unnecessarily prolonged. Starting June 2nd, the new facility began reaching out to Legacy Memory Care, and for nearly a month—until July 1st—we were given conflicting information and the runaround regarding when the refund checks were supposedly mailed. It was only after I threatened legal action that the situation was finally addressed. Throughout this process, the owner was unresponsive to emails, and very rude when I finally spoke to her on July 1st. What made matters worse was that after expressing our intent to leave a truthful review based on our experience, the owner threatened legal action for defamation, which felt like an attempt to intimidate us into silence. This review reflects our firsthand experience. Families entrusting a loved one’s care deserve professionalism, transparency, and accountability—qualities that were severely lacking in our dealings with Legacy Memory Care at Kinston.

Two weeks ago, My Son and I visited Legacy Memory Care as a potential place to place my husband. Mrs. Lateefah was very thorough with how things were done and answered all our questions. The place was so clean it doesn't have that institution feel but feels more like a home. My husband has been there two weeks now and I have visited at least four times he seems so calm and always glad to see his family but won't hesitate to go about his business when the visit has been long enough ;) I love the way the associates interact with the clients. They treat them with respect and Love. My mind is at peace because I know he is being taken care of. God Bless All of You. Mrs. Tonette Simmons Update: March 8 2024 It's been seven months since my husband entered their care. I am still very pleased with the job they do. Taking care of dementia patients with Love, kindness and dignity is a gift you just can't come in off the street and do this job. The fact that Legacy is a fairly small facility is a plus. They are able to get to know their clients. When I call there to check in on my husband I never get the impression that they are looking up his name on a notepad trying to figure out who he is and what notes have been left on him. They are able to respond right away, they know who he is. They tell what he did that day and the funny things he might have said or done. Those things bring a smile 😊 to my face doing this difficult time. Again God bless you all, there is so much appreciation in my heart for all of you.

Legacy is by far one of the most well run assisted living facilities in Kinston, NC. The staff constantly shows compassion with their residents and is always willing to go above and beyond for people they take care of. I have never had a negative interaction with anyone there. The office staff answers all of my questions within the same day and greatly eases all concerns for loved ones calling to check on their family members. The medication techs do amazing work noticing any changes and immediately seeking interventions to help no matter what time of day or night. The aids work tirelessly making sure every single resident remains clean and well fed. Legacy does amazing work providing not only physical care to their residences but emotional and spiritual care as well.

If I could rate below 1 I would. STAY AWAY. Super nice to your face to get you in the door but 100% fake. They will dope up your loved ones to the point where they can barely walk. They want patients to be easy, so they can get fast/easy money. Dropped off my father in law, and felt really good about it, as it’s a very difficult decision to make as a family. This was a man who was super active, zero violence, and easy. He was a “walker” and very active which clearly didn't work for what they wanted. Came back in 2 weeks, and the man could not walk on his own, was wearing depends diapers, could barely speak and drooling. Couldn’t keep him awake to hold a convo. In 2 weeks they managed this! After we questioned the meds he was on, they booted him to the ER and refused to take him back. Mind you, we never heard anything from them, and to this day still nothing. We found out from the ER that they would not take him back. Even while picking up his stuff (which 1/4 wasn’t even his) there was nothing said at all. Do your loved one a favor and find somewhere else for them.
