Our father enjoyed his life during his eight months at Manzanita Village. He was a bright and social guy whose memory had decreased to the point that he couldn't hold the thread of a conversation. Interacting with people, accepting help, and any change from a routine was challenging for him. Within a short period of time I noticed that he'd interrupt our visits to greet a staff member or another resident. It seemed that everyone knew him and he related to them like old friends. As a regular visitor and advocate for my dad, was it perfect, no, but any concern I raised was taken seriously. More importantly, my father could engage or not engage in activities based on his own mood. Dementia is hard. I was surprised to learn that he frequented Manzanita's movie theater with popcorn machine and "real" movie theater seats. Eventually he would say when we were out at the doctor or for a milkshake,, "Are we going back now?" Manzanita became his familiar home where we could celebrate holidays with special meals in the main dining room. It was where he could enjoy a piano recital in the Great Room, a special treat in the 50's style ice cream parlor, or attend a church service. He was always supervised but also encouraged to live each day to its fullest. When my dad fell and required a higher level of care than Manzanita offered, they advocated with me to have him return on hospice. It was not an advantage to them, because his bed was easily filled and hospice patients require more from existing staff. They took the extra time to work with his physicians and insurer because they cared about what happened to my father. Dad passed away last month in his familiar bed at home, in a shared room at Manzanita Village with hospice support. Several staff members wept when they learned of his passing. Flowers arrived at our home from the facility with their condolences. If you are looking for an exceptional medical facility, Manzanita Village may not be for you. If your goal is to improve the quality of your loved one's life as they age with physical or cognitive impairment, I encourage you to tour. It's a special place.

My mother is there and has been minus a few months for 4 years. She has friends there and the staff treat her wonderfully. If it weren’t for them she wouldn’t be there at all as they introduced us to programs that would help defray the cost. Brooke and the whole staff do everything they can to make the residents happy! Thank you for taking such good care of my mother.

Manzanita Village Senior Living Memory Care cared for my late mother with a level of love, dignity, and expertise that fills me with unbelievable gratitude. The responsive director and assistant director, along with the long-term, seasoned care staff, highly organized medical technicians, and outstanding housekeeping team, created a safe and nurturing home for her final chapter. I will forever be thankful for the compassion and devotion they showed every single day.
