My Dad lived at McCormick Place and although he enjoyed his apartment and many of the other residents he was disappointed with several things. Maintenance was terrible as he waited several months for a light bulb replacement, three years for his carpeting to be replaced and he never got the faucets on his sink replaced. The management was not very kind and caring to him increasing his rent well over what his initial agreement was and not responding to his questions in other things. He also had several falls that were due to other residents bumping into him. Thank goodness Michael was there to assist my Dad through these episodes. As I said Dad liked his apartment but unfortunately the management staff made is unpleasant for him. Hopefully in the time since Dad has left things have gotten better.

My mother has resided on the independent side of the McCormick home for the past three years and loves living there. She enjoys her friendships she has made, her spacious apartment, the food, the variety of activities, going to daily mass, and the friendly staff who all know her by name. My mother enjoys helping to set up, lector, and distribute communion daily at mass. The priest is loved by the residents. The neighborhood is safe and my mother enjoys walking and chatting with neighbors and giving the neighborhood dogs treats. My sisters and I are comforted to know she is happy and well cared for.

Someone needs to address the issue of the missing laundry. I know two residents who have complained that they can’t rely on the laundry services because when they had, many articles were missing. For context, these residents are mentally competent and aren’t making senile mistakes.

The staff are less than professional and have no concerns about patients or family hearing them argue with other staff. Telling someone to “jump off a bridge” is completely unacceptable and the staff should be ashamed of themselves.
