My name is Jeff Malpass (using my sons laptop) and I must respond to the 2 low reviews that I have read by Julian and Elizabeth. My wife was the very first person to move into Mckenzie Living (OK, 2 days after Jacob), but the first to sign the contract. I had searched every facility in the Eugene area from Cottage grove to Junction City for a place to take care of her and was ecstatic to have learned that they were breaking ground to build this place. We had to wait about 18 months for my wife to move in and it was a godsend for us to get the help she needed and still needs. Before the Covid pandemic, I was there an average of 15 times a week as a visitor...Yes, I would stop by there over 2 times a day to visit! Elizabeth, I'm sure you have seen me parked in front of the 19 house during your time spent there and we must have crossed paths. I know over a dozen patients by name and have spent the time to get to know their story...everyone heartbreaking! What a tough job the staff has and I tell you, they are excellent and very much appreciated. Not only does the staff have to deal with many physical needs and demands, but there are many mental stresses/challenges that the they have to deal with as well. I challenge you to go to other places and compare the care. Nobody comes close - Period. You are so lucky to have been accepted into this facility and hopefully you can someday appreciate their service. To contradict some of your so-called facts, I'll just get to the point. Employees smoking? yes, probably over 50% of all caregivers and nurses smoke and you probably would too if you were one, but extended breaks? How do you know what their break schedule is and how long they get? Lost clothes? Could you imagine doing laundry for 10 people. I guarantee you that the clothes are there and will "cycle" back around. I'm also sure that the dentures were found and that nobody stole it! Bathing? I think by law they cannot force a person to bathe if they refuse. I have personally had to talk to my wife a few times over the years as she was refusing to bathe. And $20,000 a month? exaggerated! It's less than 11, but that is the going rate for the services provided. Patients left alone? Total B.S. Questioning the staffs compassion for their patients? Are you kidding me! Outside activities...They had them pre covid, but they now have to be extra cautious as some patients are obviously very fragile. And finally, a money making business? Aren't all businesses in business to make money? Anyway, I hope/wish that everyone who is in need of care for their loved one takes a moment to understand and appreciate the value of a caregivers and nurses work. Good day, Jeff Malpass
