MERRILL GARDENS AT WEST COVINA

One problem. My name is not James Brega. It is Carol Brega. James was my brother-in-law who has passed away. He lived in San Diego and had never been to Merrill Gardens. I am celebrating my 1st Anniversary here at Merrill Gardens West Covina. I posted a review a month or so after moving here. I thought I'd share my review now that it has been a year. I am so happy I moved here, it has been a period of change and transition into a senior living facility. It took a few adjustments, but the people who are here....the staff and the residents have made it as easy as possible. The support I've experienced from the staff and the new friendships with residents has been above and beyond. I love my new space, the light, the convenience of wonderful cooked meals, Sylvia who cleans my apt once a week, the servers who bring my meals, always friendly and helpful, the activities director provides fun and varied things to do, I especially love a competitive game we play called Hot Seat. All the receptionists who work at the welcome desk are so warm and caring, I get great hugs. Nick and Ozzie the maintentance guys, have come up and done minor repairs, changed the filter on my Hvac, hung shelves for me, quickly and with a smile, the chefs are always willing to try and find alternatives to the menu for me when there is something not allowed on my diet, (Kyle, Lilly, Jesus) a wave of greeting from the kitchen.. I actually caught a series bronchitis and my doctor didn't want me out in the general population, so my meals were delivered to me until I could join everyone again, and when I did, I was so warmly greeted by folks who had missed me, I felt as welcomed as when I go home to visit my family on the east coast. The nurse on staff checked up on me as well, to make sure I was okay. All this occurs under the skilled guidance of our Director Sherry. I feel safe and supported and loved here. One year down and I look forward to the many years ahead.

I have enjoyed my stay here. I have been here for 4 years. I visited 4 other places before I walked in. As soon as I walked into this community, I knew this was the place for me. What really sold me was that fact that I had a washer and dryer in my apartment and that it was not down stairs.

Our mom was reluctant to go into Senior Living. But after being in her own home and somewhat isolated, she really started to enjoy the friendships and camaraderie at Merrill Gardens. We soon knew she had picked a good one. Actually, a fellow Greek who was a resident wholeheartedly recommended it. This woman had been at a more expensive place where the food (and the vibe!) wasn't nearly as good. The spaces are modern and attractive, and the hallways and apartments are very nice, with high ceilings and plenty of windows and light. As her daughter, I ate there once in awhile. It was always good, and our mom could get food between 7am - 7pm, such a nice luxury. She enjoyed the bingo, arts & crafts, special guests and music, and local outings. She felt very safe there, loved the sweet staff, and felt like it was home. She recently passed, but spent 3+ solid years there. The staff, starting with Director Sherry, always had time for mom and her family and had a wonderful balance of protective and caring over the residents, but not micro-managing or heavy-handed with them. I strongly recommend Merrill Gardens. I hope they have room for me in about 20 years!

My mother in law has been at Merrill Gardens for a couple of years now and I have to say we are very impressed in so many ways. First, the care they provide goes above and beyond and my mother in law is so happy there. Also, the entire staff is caring and kind, including the director Sherry Fisher. She is always available to listen and offer support for any concern we have. We are so happy we made the choice in choosing Merrill Gardens for the care of the matriarch of our family.
