Very poor communication prior to move in, not knowledgable about types of dementia. My father planned to move from Baltimore, I shared his diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia and asked several times if they were able to meet the needs of someone with Lewy Body Dementia. 1. They said he could live there as long as he was not exit seeking, and he is not. 2. I signed papers and paid the deposit November 5 telling them that my dad would move in in late December. I asked when he would need to start paying for the room assuming it would be December 1 and was assured clearly by the director that he would only start paying when he physically moved in. We decided he would move in on Christmas Day, (because airports are less crowded that day.) I informed them of that mid November. I asked how far in advance I could move furniture in and the director said any time, so we did. At the time they had several vacancies. 3. I got a call December 10th, after all plane tickets were bought and the room was furnished saying he could not move in Christmas day and that he would not be allowed to move in until January. 4. I sent updates of his symptoms, all of which are very common for lewy body dementia patients, and none of which involved exit seeking behavior. December 12 or so they informed me that they would not be able to meet my father's needs and he could not move in at all. 5. They now say the $500 deposit is non-refundable although their document says " this is a nonrefundable deposit if the resident meets criteria and is accepted. The security deposit will only be refunded if the resident no longer meets admission criteria at the time a room becomes available." That is exactly what happened. . They are the ones who decided he can't come there, but they will not refund my deposit. 6. This refusal to honor their policy gives them a financial incentive to tell you that they can meet your loved ones needs, take your deposit, and then not give it back. And you will be too busy trying to find a place at the last minute that can care for your loved one to argue much. Specifically their response "It is nonrefundable because he originally met the criteria, was accepted AND a room was available which you had furnished. We also did have new admissions lined up while we were waiting for the room to be cleared. If there would NOT have been a room available yet when the decline happened, then the deposit would be refunded as it states in the policy." So It's nonrefundable because they waited until we had the room ready, just a few days before he was due to move in to decide he didn't meet the criteria.

My mother, Pat Hoffman, received excellent care. Everyone was so kind and caring. When my brother and I left, we never worried about her care. It was always so clean and decorated so pretty.
