We just moved my husband to Assisted Living at The Palmettos. He is very happy there! He has Alzheimer's, not in memory care yet. The staff is kind, attentive and professional. Their communication with me is very good. I like that there are 6 levels of care, and I can increase that level at any time if I think he needs more care. I've had meals with him, and the food is very good ... there are multiple choices for every meal, including dessert, and the portions are generous. I heartily recommend The Palmettos!

A truly exceptional facility with a professional, attentive, and kind staff. Beautiful assisted living accommodation that looks more like a lovely and comfortable hotel than a care facility. No bad smells; no unkind words; no shaming when someone needs a bit of help--I'm so happy and relieved that we found this place for my mother! It's better for both of us!! :) After experiencing unkind, ungenerous treatment elsewhere in town, we moved my 98yo mother to the Palmettos last year. What an incredible difference! The other facility had increased my mother to Level 2 care (for nearly $1000 more a month), so I warned the head of nursing at Palmettos about this when she evaluated my mother. After observing my mother thoroughly, she said that my mother is definitely Level 1, and that the things I mentioned as being Level 2, she assured me were not. Things such as handing her her meds, helping to redirect her when she gets a bit confused about where her room is, or reminding her of activities and events--which were too much trouble at the other place and were presented to me as *my* problems to fix for my mother--are, she said, "basic assistive care that we give everyone." Most of all, I feel the entire staff is there to help and support my mother, and me as her family. The food is very tasty--my mother had gotten very thin living alone and then living someplace where she wasn't assisted--and she has put on weight and no longer looks so frail. There are exercise classes every day, a variety of activities and outings every month, and several really nice festive events throughout the year. Yes, it is more expensive than the other place by a good bit; but I can see the difference every day. Also, I was able to apply for survivor benefits from the VA to assist with the cost, and frankly the relief from the stress, manipulative comments, and lack of care at the other place is *PRICELESS*.

I moved both of my parents (ages 95 & 94)into The Palmettos of Parklane one week ago after an extensive study of options in Columbia. It was time for them to move from 'independent' to 'assisted' living. My objectives were: safety, comfort, convenience, happiness for Mom and Dad. I will not mention where they had lived - or the other retirement communities I considered. After spending fifty years operating hospitals, I felt I had more knowledge about what to look for and how to evaluate my options. The factors leading to the "Palmettos at Parklane" decision are: (a) appearance of facility...attractive, warm, welcoming (b) accommodations comfortable and attractive, (c) attitude, friendliness and helpfulness of staff, (d) FOOD!!! which matters so much to my parents, (e) value. Yes - value, not cost. Value is getting good quality and service for the what we pay. Overall, BEST in Columbia.

When you need professional, dedicated, and compassionate care you must consider The Palmettos. You do have options... not considering The Palmettos would limit your options for your love one...
