My mother recently passed and she spent her final days at Pacifica Rancho Penasquitos. Mom had been in a total of 4 facilities over the years for complicated reasons, so we do have a basis for comparison. It's worth noting that if your parent lives in a facility like this over a course of years, you will have some bad, strange, unsettling, or difficult situations crop up at some points along the way - just like life outside of assisted living facilities. There are always compromises on the level of luxury and quality of food and what you can afford at the end of the day, etc., but once you've figured all of that out, I'd say that Pacifica RP is actually a terrific value for the dollar spent in terms of quality of facilities, etc. But none of that matters all that much in the end. In the end, what counts is the kindness and generosity of the staff. The Caregivers at these facilities face all kinds of situations throughout the day that are complicated, challenging, and frustrating. My understanding is that they don't get paid like tech executives either. So given our experience across multiple facilities, what obviously matters is the culture set by the director, how they hire, how they train and supervise, etc. Hiring on compassion and kindness while also getting everything done on budge cannot be easy. This is, as I mentioned, hard work. So I just find myself incredibly grateful for Wes and his staff. The care givers here are relentlessly kind and patient. They actually care, and I suppose, to do this work day in and out for modest pay, caring is the only thing that can really work. You contact a community like this because you know you can't be there for your parent every day. So on those days in between, when you can't be there, it's a very special gift to know that your loved one is surrounded by so much kindness.
