After 6 years and two other facilities in Michigan that were not able to provide adequate dementia care we moved my mom to TRCC where she lived out her days in a safe well cared for environment. We will never regret the decision as hard as it was. The care was superior from the Executive Director to the nurses aide. Everyone was wonderful! I can't say enough good things about our experience.

We toured the place to see about my grandmother residing there. I was appalled by the smell. Staff were more interested in how much she could pay and how they would need this and that than the concern for my grandmothers well being. No way I would leave my loved on there.

I'd like to set the record straight concerning another review. This place is great. They truly did care and take care of my mom. The place is clean. The apartment my mom stayed in was wonderful. It was newly turned over, clean, and updated. I had no problem when I talked to any of the staff, whether it was nurses, CNAs, techs, maintenance, concierge, or other administrative staff. They were all friendly, polite and helpful. There was one staff member early on that my mom didn't feel comfortable with so they did changes necessary to prevent them from assisting her again. I know my mom did have a hard time pressing the call button and that doesn't make it a long response time. The nurse practitioner, seeing a doctor, and transportation to and from appointments were all discussed and explained during my initial visit before choosing this place. (How involved have you been the past few years? Where were you in her after surgery care? You thought she could just take care of herself after her knee replacement and subsequent issues.) They practices involving the NP and doctor completely valid and inline if, not better than other places in the area. As far as dining goes my mom ate the food and enjoyed it. The dining room always seemed to have people in it enjoying their meals when I was visiting. You're right, this place doesn't have a personal nurse, cook, attendant, chauffer, or other staff for each and every resident. That's also not what they claim to do. This place really made my mom's last few months as best as possible. Following the craziness of your tantrum because they wouldn't notarize what you wanted to convince my mom of your lies, you decided to bad mouth the place. Good news though, the lies you told the LaPorte County Adult Protective Services Investigator about this place, the care they provided, and about myself were all deemed inaccurate when she did her investigation. Also the lies you told the Funeral Director... yeah she also realized were just lies.

Good: (1) housekeeping is thorough and respectful; (2) maintenance is quick and competent; (3) most CNAs know how to assist a resident. Bad: (1) With the exception of one nurse, there is no continuity of care. What this means: if you ask the nurse on shift a question, she will look into, but then you probably won't hear back. Then you ask the next nurse, and they have no idea what the previous nurse did (often because nothing was done - which they admitted to me on an occasion). It could take you days to get any progress. (2) Nurse practitioner - so, she's not an employee of this place, but if you need medical care there, you have to go through her. She will not return phone calls to family members but is an expert at prescribing more and more meds. (3) The administrative staff (i.e.. those that sit in an office). First, shortness of staff seems to be a reoccurring problem. This could result in not enough dining staff, or residents who need assistance to return to their rooms waiting long times after hitting their call buttons. Those who did work their shifts shared they were often exhausted or aggravated from not enough help. My favorite is when my loved one sat on a toilet for over an hour because the CNA placed them there and said she would be right back but did not return (loved one had to hit the call button and wait awhile). Also, they don't timely update their elevator inspection paperwork on display. Good news though - the IN Dept of Homeland Security did say they were inspected more recently than the paperwork suggested. Third, they are all about the money coming in and not long-term well-being of their residents. To illustrate this, let me share another happening when my loved one had a caterer. Somehow the bag broke. The CNA wrapped a diaper around the bag and left my loved one in their room all day (they brought in meals) because you can't have urine leaking all around the place. I spoke with staff on shift about it - no answers. I reported this to the executive director. No answer. It was a darn good thing that one nurse who provides continuity in care showed up on the next shift because she did something about it! Now, the nursing staff at the time was not permitted to change the bag, so that something was to send my loved one to a medical facility for them to change the bag. Following that craziness, the nurse practitioner did authorize the staff to change the bag in the future. What!?! I provided a picture of the bag in a diaper to show this was not made up!

We had a great experience at Residences at Coffee Creek. Not only is it a new and an inviting environment, the team was our partner from the start. I remember how Natalie was so nice and helping us transition my mother to her new place. The community is so welcoming that people with dementia can manage more easily and not be overwhelmed. This really worked for my mom. She was comfortable there from the start, and that had not happened at her previous place. We will be forever grateful to the team at Residences at Coffee Creek. They made all of our lives better and allowed me to worry less.
