My sister was accepted into the facility and it was one problem after another. First off, a Physicians Assistant decided to take her off one of her sleep meds that she had been taking for 20 years because she didnt like that particular drug even though her neurologist was fine with it. She didnt even consult with her husband who has been her care taker for years. Somehow she was all of a sudden more educated than a neurologist. This caused my sister to lose sleep and absolute chaos ensued. She became irritable and violent. A couple of the staff members were good but whether or not my sister got her medication when she was supposed or at all was always in question. Very poor communication with the person who knows her best, her husband for 40 plus years. Because the medication was badly miss handled and led to my sister’s violent outbursts, she was evicted. She is currently at a different facility where they actually make sure she is on the proper medication and are in constant communication with her husband about any changes or suggestions. What a difference. She is much calmer and no violent out burst.

My aunt with late-stage dementia had a terrible experience at this facility. A physician assistant immediately took her off medications that were prescribed by her neurologist — medications that were working — simply because she thought she “knew better.” That decision caused total chaos: my aunt stopped sleeping, became severely agitated and anxious, couldn’t feed herself, and even lost the ability to walk properly. Staff routinely failed to give her medications unless family specifically asked. Because they cut off her sleep meds, she was awake at night and miserable during the day. Eventually she was discharged for “violence” — which is a symptom of late-stage dementia, and was created by their poor medical decisions. When we brought her home and her neurologist put her back on the correct medications, she became calm and stable again. No violence. Sleeping well. A completely different person. For $7,000 a month, nothing that was promised was delivered. No activities. No interaction. Residents sit in front of a TV all day. This place did real harm and turned our lives upside down. I would never recommend this facility to anyone with a loved one who has dementia.

My elderly parents live in Longs, SC and have been residents of SC for the past 15 years. Mom has recently been put into Hospice care and Dad is an insulin dependent diabetic who wears an insulin pump to help administer his insulin. My Dad also lost his eyesight do to the 78 years of being a diabetic 38 years ago. Upon interviewing with River Park assisted living my parents were told that there was a place for them. They were very excited to be able to have an assisted living facility to care for them. As the oldest son of 4 we are in need of help for them because myself and my siblings all live in places outside of SC. Well 3 days after telling my parents that they would be accepted and us putting a deposit on the facility we were called to inform us that we were no longer accepted due to my Dad's insulin pump. What type of assistents does this place offer to not be able to assist a blind 88 year old blind man? Needless to say their hopes were shot and they began to spiral do to the now unknown. DON'T ACCEPT SOMEONE JUST TO BREAK THEIR HEARTS.

I visit this facility quite often and I absolutely love the atmosphere and the wonderful care and interaction the staff has for the residents. Each care giver to the management team are fully engaged with the residents and it feels like one happy community/family. I know that the entrance from Hwy 9 was a bit worrisome for some due to the construction of the brand new additions that are being made to River Park but things are back to normal. I would hope that one would not hold the traffic of Hwy 9 against this loving and wonderful staff and facility. If you or a loved one is looking for a wonderful place to live and enjoy life please reach out to this facility and they will take care of your needs. Hope you all have a safe and blessed day.

River Park is such a great facility. My therapy dog and I have been visiting there since they opened except when Covid prevented us from visiting. It is a beautifully decorated facility with a caring staff. I love visiting the assisted living residents and also the memory care side. The residents always are happy to see my dog, Beau and I we feel lucky to be able to go there. If you are looking for a home for your loved one be sure to check it out. I might be there myself someday!
