Please do not bring your family or friends to this place. Facility is dirty, no real nurses on staff. The director is horrible, doesn’t care about patients or staff. Trust me, if you care about your loved ones don’t do it!!!

ok I have read all reviews just so you know Barry Rathbone lived there until they kicked him out for calling VA to inspect and said he lied as the reason. He was very thin and had been needing a hospital bed he's in wheel chair had tough time getting around his shared room did smell of urine (I don't smell it throughout building but was strong smell in his room). I have recently seen him about a few weeks ago he was very happy his weight looked much healthier and wasn't complaining about anything (he complained a lot at rivers edge). most of runs out to stores are done by visitors as there transportation has been broke down. They have 3 different groups 3 times a day. They use to make all stand in line for half hour to an hour someone inspected and corrected that somewhat. I mentioned 3 different groups go eat different times. As they don't rotate those groups same group goes last everytime. So this group constantly runs out of food there was spaghetti and one in third group was handed a plate of noodles without sauce and most don't complain for many reasons but i think taking advantage of mental problems. The food is usually "cooked to death"(prob from trying to keep food warm so long)The third group is only one Ive been told about, but they also usually get random silverware a fork to eat bowl of cereal. Barry Rathbone and others were excited about having fork spoon and knife for each meal. As many others point out the place needs cleaning I was told a week ago hasn't been a cleaner working there in 2 weeks. someone takes some to go shop for several there as many times they have to result to peanut butter and jelly for several diff reasons. This place really needs help needs to pay caring nurses right wages places needs some type of funding so need to solve this rather than close it down. cause that could possibly force some farther away from family. the past few weeks there are arguments and fights over milk(apparently it's rare there). But sadly most family don't go and visit and some could care less if their family are mistreated. Keep Rivers Edge of Lumberton in our prayers.

Please be aware that this place does not serve our senior population well. There is a pervasive urine smell, the staff was not engaging, and the overall appearance inside is that it needs a thorough cleaning. Patients need to be hydrated regularly. Patient comfort and care should be the priority of this facility and unfortunately it is not.

ZERO STARS! Don’t voluntarily take your loved ones here. We were forced, out of our control. Never in my life would I put anyone here intentionally. The ’administrator’ Tamika Smith loves to throw around her title but doesn’t even know the rules and regulations for facilities in NC, regardless of whether it private or not, she is abusive to patients, visitors and family members…all because “I’m the administrator.” She brings her dog, doesn’t clean up after it if it urinates in the building. The place stinks of urine, it’s dirty, understaffed, no interest in the patients and their wellbeing, only collecting a check and filling their beds, and this is what DSS says is better than a home with loving family members who provide love, emotional support, care etc! Lack personal items like toothbrush for residents. They have patients so sedated they sit in the TV rooms like zombies. They give toilet rags and say it’s s patient’s washcloth, bath towels so small they can’t even wrap a small person of about 110 lbs. Incoming calls to reach patients are not answered, they let patient sit there dehydrated and don’t make sure they are getting enough to drink. They steal patient’s jewelry so make sure to remove if you get the chance before they are admitted. And the list goes on…

All I can say is that Administrator Ms. Tomeka is excellent, the staff have been nothing but wonderful to my grandfather! They all call him “Papa”If we ever had a issue it was addressed immediately therefore I can’t not complain never have I smelled urine always clean. Food is wonderful unlike his other facility. We visit 4 to 5 times a week if not more sometimes twice a day. Visit your family knows what’s going on instead of placing them in facility expecting miracles. Rivers Edge has faced many obstacles due to past owners. Give them a chance and you will see that they truly care about residents.
