Settlers Place

Foremost, the reason you are looking for a place like Settlers is a chapter in life that is not easy - for anyone. Your loved one is having to make big changes, you are having to watch it happen, both of you are questioning is it the right decision. The local community recognizes and recommends Settlers. It was one of the reasons we chose Settlers for our mom’s assisted living in Fall of 2025. Staff has had some changes recently, including management. The office staff are receptive to suggestions and requests. They are helpful and have a genuine concern for ensuring quality care. Yes, some of the staff are better than others and some shifts are better than others. That’s the reality of any such facility. It takes the right person to choose this work as their livelihood. For the most part, everyone I have interacted with care and give a darn. Reminders are sometimes needed when my mom asks for assistance. I do feel they are one person short on each shift. Management has implemented positive changes and more are coming - recent renovations, a digital menu board for visually impaired. They listen to their residents and have a monthly resident meeting where they truly seek resident feedback. In the end, it is a shared living space with limited amenities and a focus on safety. The range of residents varies in capacity and ability and is ever changing. That’s just the reality of any place. But this is a good place to be.

Christy Schmoyer is the best nurse, I have ever crossed paths with. She is extremely caring and compassionate, with a great bedside manner. Thank you for all you do in caring for the ones we love most and myself at times. I appreciate your hard work and dedication for our elders. Again, thank you for all you do.

Eva is absolutely amazing! She’s kind, patient, and always goes out of her way to make everyone feel comfortable and cared for. You can really tell she loves what she does and treats every resident with genuine warmth and respect. Her positive attitude and caring nature make such a difference at Trustwell Living — she’s a true gem!

My experience with Settlers has been nothing but positive. The staff is kind, attentive, and truly cares about the residents’ well-being. The environment is clean, welcoming, and feels like home. I appreciate the way they go above and beyond to make sure both residents and families feel supported. I highly recommend Settlers to anyone looking for a safe and caring place for their family member.

TrustWell Living Settlers Place is one of my favorite assisted living buildings in the Laporte area! I work in Mishawaka at an acute hospital and when I was looking to market toward the Laporte area, Shellie and her team were very open to talking with me. They are a wonderful team and have such an inviting building. The community events they have at their building are also great so that people can come in and see the community without feeling like they are pressured to move in. Sharail, The Director of Nursing is amazing about communicating with our facility if she thinks that one of the residents need our level of care. You can tell the residents really love her and her energy she brings the building.
