I toured several memory care communities for my spouse, and Silverado Alexandria made the number one spot on the list owing to its calm, spaciousness, and cleanliness—not to mention the fact that it came highly recommended by more than one care manager and had positive Google reviews. The number two community was closer to home, an important consideration, but it was also a bit congested and noisy. I was also attracted by the fact that Silverado allows pets, has inclusive pricing, and offers furnished rooms, which number two did not. Moving a loved one into a memory care community (or any kind of care community) is not a fun experience. It can take a while for both the resident and family members to get used to such a major change. Silverado helped make my transition smoother than I expected. After several weeks, I see my spouse happier and healthier than when I was caring for her at home. She has gained weight. Her mobility seems better, helped by in-house physical and occupational therapy as well as daily group exercise. Her speech also seems improved, likely because she now has many more people to interact with, along with group activities that support cognitive health. Family members are always welcome at Silverado and are included in activities, meals, and field trips. The activity staff clearly appreciate family involvement, and these shared experiences are genuinely enjoyable. At one point I told Silverado leadership that “this building has a lot of love in it,” and I still feel that way. The staff are friendly, caring, professional, energetic, and hardworking. I’ve had questions and requests along the way, and the responses have consistently been positive and helpful. In the past, I heard more than once that when a spouse moves into a care community, the family caregiver “gets to just be a spouse again.” At the time I didn’t quite get it, but I do now. Silverado has allowed me to stop doing almost all of the caregiving roles I used to do. And because those roles are being handled in a confident, caring way, time with my spouse is now mostly quality time—just hanging out and enjoying each other’s company.

My mom has been at Silverado Alexandria for 2 months and it has been a wonderful experience. The team at Silverado is highly experienced in dementia care and they truly care about the residents and their families. I moved my mom from a different state and the team walked me through every step; it was worth the wait. They partner with me to best meet her needs and coach me when I am not sure what to do. And best of all mom is less anxious than she has been in years. Moving a loved one into memory care is a transition for everyone, however I know without a doubt this is the very best place for my mom and in turn for me. I can finally rest easy again knowing she is safe, well cared for, nearby, and has everything she needs including good food, kind staff and team members, engaging activities, a clean and warm environment and three community dogs that bring joy to everyone! I am grateful to have found a place that treats their residents with the dignity and respect they deserve, and allow family members to focus on enjoying time with their loved ones and the other residents. Thank you Silverado Alexandria.

Silverado Alexandria is a terrific facility. The staff is professional / efficient / effective / knowledgeable. There is a great sense of community, and care, in caring for my wife. She has been a resident for 16 months. They use common sense in making decisions, and we are comfortable with those decisions.
