My in-laws have been TRAPPED in their apartment for a month due to an inoperable elevator. Yes, only one elevator in the building. On 12/4/25 we moved the in-laws into the Potomac bldg at Sunrise at Bluemont Park and that afternoon the elevator went out of service. Today is 12/25/25 and the elevator is still not working. The management issued a statement saying the elevator will be down for the unforeseeable future. This has been a nightmare for our family. The holidays have been ruined for our family. My in-laws can't get out and several of their friends and family cannot climb 3 flights of stairs to come visit. The dining experience has been AWFUL. Cold meals delivered in to-go boxes, soup delivered in paper cups, coffee is cold, no silverware- not what I expected at this price point. We often visit the facility later in the day when management is gone. The staff is SO loud speaking on their cellphones, sleeping on the floor in the common area, and wearing sleeping bonnets on their heads. When we toured the facility prior to selecting Bluemont we experienced none of this nonsense. I feel the marketing team got over on us. All of the wonderful things we were told about life at Bluemont was a bunch of "SMOKE" . We were shown a fridge stocked with beverages, snacks, and fresh fruits for the residents to enjoy located in each building, I went there this afternoon and there was 3 drinks and not a Coke in sight - My FIL's beverage of choice. There was 1 apple and that was it. I have checked this area on a few occasions and it is always in the same state. In a month the apartment has been cleaned once. I was told the staff doesn't want to wake the in-laws up. Well when you have nothing to do all day as a trapped resident you sleep. The only solution management has offered is to move to a temporary apartment in another building and leave all of their personal possessions behind. It was a huge emotional experience moving them to Bluemont, having to move from their home of over 40 years. That was less than 30 days ago and to put them through that again is mentally challenging and exhausting for anyone at any age. Sunrise you need to get your act together! Someone needs to be FIRED! How do you let this happen? I have spoken to Bluemont staff and this is not the first or second occurrence of the elevator having a major malfunction. Had the marketing team told us we were moving into an old building with a major issues we would have selected a different property or possibly a different company. I am sad for my in-laws, We worked hard so they would love their new home, making sure no detail was missed but Sunrise at Bluemont has let our family down and failed my in-laws. 01/09/26- Update Since posting the initial review we have been contacted by the care coordinator and the Executive Director of Sunrise of Bluemont. As expected things have improved for my in-laws. The meals are now being delivered on ceramic plates and the soup is now in bowls. The team has delivered a few cases of their favorite beverages for the parents to enjoy. The cleaning staff has successfully completed 2 weeks of cleaning the room and doing the laundry as scheduled. The staff has been extremely responsive and nice when we come to visit. The elevator is still out of service with no signs of a repair date. The in-laws did make it out of the room once for lunch in the dining room. They thoroughly enjoyed their experience. I did observe that while my in-laws were now receiving their food in a better state the other residents are still eating out to to-go containers for all of their delivered meals. I do feel awful for the staff and I know this entire situation is a huge burden on them. I will raise my review to 2 stars- The elevator is still a HUGE inconvenience to residents, family, visitors, and staff. The price point for this living arrangement is not cheap and my in laws $ is being stretched to be in an assisted living. This is not the 1st elevator failure.I wish someone had an honest review to give us insight. 3/7/26- Elevator is still not working

The staff at Sunrise Bluemont is top notch! I heartily recommend this facility for respite or long-term care for family or loved ones. When looking for a facility offering respite care, I worked with Synai, the Sales Manager, who later met me for a private tour, explained the meal plans, daily schedule, and activities; she took a personal interest in my Mom and her needs which was very reassuring. My Mother is sharp as a whip mentally, but requires knee and shoulder replacements, making mobility an issue. The nursing, dietary and environmental services staff members at Sunrise are caring, professional, and helpful, and the receptionists act more like a concierge (both weekend and weekday) always willing to help. Since her stay began, my Mom looks like she's about 10 years younger, looks forward to doing her hair & makeup, and being with her new friends. She is thoroughly enjoying her time here. Thank you, Synai, and ALL of the Sunrise staff for taking such good care of one of my most important treasures, my family ❤️
