Given its area, this place is a real gem. My mother moved her after a very disappointing change of ownership and leadership at nearby facility. The staff was great and really easy to work with. While the assisting staff was great, I do want to give a specific callout to the chef and cooking staff and the event staff. My mom always complimented the food and we really liked how the event staff incorporated families into the events. The area where it is located is convenient and has some great areas to walk nearby. There is a playground a few 100 meters away that allowed my mom to go for a manageable walk and watch her granddaughter play.

I encourage anyone who chooses to pay for their family member to reside at Tall Oaks to do their research before entering this facility. The accommodations are sub par - dingy carpets, dark rooms, elevator and A/C issues. The most recent violation and complaint was issued on September 4, 2025 by the Virginia Department of Social Services. The facility had issues where patients in memory care were experiencing temperatures up to 86 degrees because of broken A/C in the building. This facility is not cheap - and it was gut wrenching to see vulnerable people who were not being given the dignity they deserved. My mother is in most cases unable to advocate for herself and I don’t believe tall oaks was looking out for her best interests. When discussing her care with the executive director, the conversation was deeply unprofessional. We chose to move my mother to a different facility and have not looked back.

We recently moved my in-laws into Tall Oaks. We are very happy with our experience. The staff is so welcoming and warm, from housekeeping, to maintenance, to dining, and of course nursing. Allison made the admissions process as stress-free and straightforward as possible and was able to answer all of our questions. It is a lovely facility that feels like home.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this assisted living community! From the moment we first came in, we felt welcomed, supported, and cared for. Mavis, the Administrator, is truly outstanding. She goes above and beyond to make sure every resident and family feels heard, respected, and valued. Her warmth, professionalism, and genuine compassion set the tone for the entire community. It’s clear that she leads with heart and dedication, and we are so grateful for the positive environment she creates. The nursing team is equally incredible. They are attentive, responsive, and always willing to take the extra step to ensure residents are comfortable and well cared for. Their patience and kindness shine through every interaction, giving families like ours great peace of mind. A special thank you also goes to Allison, who has been so supportive, approachable, and thorough in communication. She makes sure you are updated, reassured, and confident that your loved one is in excellent hands. Overall, this team provides not only excellent care but also a true sense of community and family. I’m so thankful for Mavis, Allison, and the wonderful nurses who make such a difference every single day.
