My wife, Nancy, dealt with Parkinson's Disease for 14 years and then with dementia and finally needed more and safer care than I was able to provide at home. Our son, daughter and I toured and carefully evaluated various facilities in the Northern Virginia area and ultimately decided that the memory care unit in Colvin Run would provide the care that Nancy would need. Little did we know that the care she would receive would not only be professional and competent, but also compassionate, understanding, patient and constantly supportive. The entire staff is that way. Nancy and the Certified Nursing Assistant assigned to her developed a remarkable loving bond that continued through and beyond Nancy's passing. Nothing, and I mean nothing, was too much for this incredibly caring CNA. In addition, I want to mention that the overall director of Colvin Run, who is a Registered Nurse himself, does not close himself off and hide out in his office but rather, every day, he visits with the residents, gets to know each one personally, and asks how they are doing and if there is anything they need. Colvin Run fosters an overall atmosphere of friendly, uplifting, supportive caring. We were blessed that Nancy had the rewarding experience of being there.

Our mom has been at the Residence at Colvin Run for several years. They have provided a caring and supportive environment that feels more like a community than a facility. Knowing that our Mom is in a safe and comfortable place has given us peace of mind. The communication between the staff and families is exceptional. When our mother had a fall the onsite medical staff evaluated her quickly and immediately called us to coordinate further care. There are plenty of social, educational, and recreational programs that has kept our mom active and engaged. From puzzles to music performances and outings, there’s always something for her to do. The facility is new, clean, bright, and well-maintained. There are plenty of common areas and a nice porch in the front with a fan for residents to sit and a courtyard for relaxing outside. The dining room is very nice and has great food. While the services are superb it is a little bit on the pricey side. However we highly recommend if you are looking for a clean, safe environment with a caring staff.

We moved my 94 year old mother from another facility to Colvin Run. What a difference! She is really thriving at CR. In the last facility (which was equally expensive), she was often left alone and ignored. She'd had a stroke last year so had been moved to memory care. The whole floor smelled of urine. The staff was not motivated. At CR, the staff is like family. They know all of us. Seth Wirekoh, the Executive Director, does a great job of taking care of the staff and modeling caring behavior so it spreads top down. I enjoy visiting and am so happy knowing my mother is cared for. Something else I've noticed is how many family members visit their loved ones at CR. I rarely saw other family members at the last facility.

I had the pleasure of visiting at The Residence at Colvin Run and the experience has been exceptional. The staff is caring, professional, attentive, and always going above and beyond to ensure the residents feel safe, comfortable, and valued. The community is clean, welcoming, and well-maintained, with plenty of activities, amenities, or resources to keep the residents engaged and happy.

My father with dementia has recently become a resident here. As a daughter, but even more so as a local LPC mental health provider, I must say that I am highly impressed with the very high level of care that he is being given at The Colvin Run Residence. The staff are extremely knowledgeable regarding both his physical and mental healthcare needs. The facilities are beautiful -- tastefully decorated, spacious, clean, and airy. Finally, the food and residents' activities are diverse and well-planned. My family and I are very grateful to have such a facility close by to help us care for him during this difficult time in such a wonderful way!
