Having needed to move my parents into Waterbrooke from another facility entirely unexpectedly, from start to finish, the staff have made accommodations (since the original move happened write around Thanksgiving) and taken extra steps to demonstrate, from hour-one of moving them in, an individualized approach to care that they so desperately needed. Very happy with the level of care the staff at Waterbrooke provides, as you can't put a price on "peace of mind."

I attempted to get information on how my aunt, who lives in AZ now, may request the name of a doctor who saw her while living at Waterbrooke of Elizabeth City and/or the facility where that procedure was done. Both individuals were EXTREMELY rude and during 2 different telephonic conversations - each one HUNG up on me. I left a complaint voicemail message at the Administrator’s office about her unprofessional, disrespectful and rude employees - with absolutely NO response. Dealing wirh these kind of employees make it very difficult for relatives like me, who are trying to help our elderly family members with their medical care. The physicians in Arizona need procedures’ results to treat my aunt more effectively. But, unfortunately, Waterbrooke in Elizabeth City employees need a bit of empathy, patience and respect. I definitely do NOT recommend this place. If this is how they treat a person during phone calls - it only leaves one wondering. Please think twice before choosing this facility for yourself or your loved one.

My mother has been at Waterbrooke for almost 10 years now and we wanted to write a review and point out a couple folks. Rhonda Boyd-Todd (Administrator), Jennifer White (Resident Care Director), I just want to stress that these ladies and the entire staff are caring and compassionate. The facility is clean and warming. It’s a safe environment. Every time I visit the staff is so friendly. We are very happy with Waterbrooke! Thank you!

If I could give zero stars I would! I just had to move my uncle out of this horrible place! Im so thankful we have the ability to move him into another place, but hate it for the others there that can't. We had to get the state involved to get heat in the facility (the facility lied and said the heat wasnt broke but we have pictures of the heating and air truck there after we told the facility we were calling the state due to no heat). The residents were freezing and many sick from the very cold temps! The state made sure the facility ordered windows finally that were never ordered (even though I was told back in September they were being ordered as there were busted windows that dont even lock or shut, as well as get better care for the residents). Rhonda is just horrible, unprofessional and shouldn't be allowed to run the facility. Even tried to lie and say "the dr paperwork couldn't be done until after the 1st of the year because no dr was in as they were gone on vacation". Well I called the 2 providers myself and got it taken care of! She just wanted more money to have to have my uncle there past the 14 day notice! Just to get the paperwork for move out was a mess as they didn't even keep accurate records. Not to mention my uncle was misdiagnosed and put on meds we never were told about nor gave permission for. My uncle had to beg for a shower and some days went 5 days without one. Needed help getting his pants up each morning and nobody would ever come help. We caught that by popping up unexpectedly. So much came to light when we got the state and a ombudsman involved. As we started seeing things that were of concern then called the state to make a report. The neglect, food, hygiene and so much at this place is sickening! 3 current residents came up to my husband and I and said "thank you for getting us heat and better care" nobody should have to go without that! Please whatever you do, don't send your loved ones here and if you have loved ones there, get them out! I made them very upset when I called the state and was told by Rhonda "It's caused a burden on Rhonda and the facility" but trust and believe I don't care what burden it caused her as I was a voice for the ones who weren't being heard or felt they couldn't speak up! Now the facility is being watched by the state and ombudsman, so my work there is done and my uncle is in a new beautiful, safe place!

Other than there not being enough staff and the administration is only worried about profit, I'll tell you a story about what happened today. My Dad is at Laurel Park, thankfully he got in there after Waterbrooke decided to sue me because they wanted to control his money. I guess that is why anyway no one could figure that out. While visiting with my Dad today a lady came in and said she was so happy to see him here instead of there. She said she worked at Waterbrooke when he was there and he talked to her and told her how mean they were to him. She used to help him outside of her normal duties because no one else did. I know that is a fact because I know more than once they didn't have the staff to take care of the people that I witnessed too. The biggest blessing we ever had was figuring out how to get him Medicare and get out of that sesspool. If you need to put your person somewhere, you do the same. Maybe because they don't pay the people, maybe because they can't charge enough maybe because whatever.. but don't go there.
