Great facility, great idea for memory care needs, poor management and unfair treatment of family members. My dad is kept here pretty much against his will per decisions made by a POA who had no close relationship with him. The cost is $7,622.00 per month. My sisters and I had to fight the staff and director in order to place a camera in his room. The director made several statements concerning state law and other untrue things and finally allowed the camera. When my sisters removed my access to the cameras without good reason, I placed my own, using the same guidelines the first camera required and two days later they had staff unplug it and twist it around to point at the ceiling, now stating that policy allows only one. There was no debate, I was told if I turned my camera back on, I would be banned from the facility. My Dad had been treated okay but sometimes was left unchecked in wet garments, the camera made it possible to track that and take care of it. He was allowed to sleep through meals, sometimes 2 or all 3 meals a day. The camera allowed me to know this and be sure he ate. The camera showed me that his chronic COPD was not being treated properly or even treated incorrectly. I was able to remedy that. The camera made me privy to the fact that the Meridian required my Dad to be sedated to "reduce his anxiety" in order to live there, something that had never been diagnosed or treated in him before. When he refused the drugs, it was agreed that they would crush these heavy meds and mix them into his water, his pudding, and any other thing they could tempt him with. He has no idea why he feels so doped up. It was quite dangerous at first, he suffered many falls in his room, alone. He was a zombie, mouth hanging open, barely holding his head up. He has no call button in his room, no phone, no way to ask for help. More than once he lay in the floor for long periods of time, calling out until his voice was hoarse and small. The staff and managers have been rude and unfair toward me since my sister cut me off from the camera, apparently having been told whatever stories my sister has imagined. There are so many good things here offered to those who are favored, the rest of us just have to figure out what's legal and push past the rudeness and power/money hungry folks who tend to be in these places. I am the youngest of 5, my father deserves better, and at the least I feel that rules that apply to one should apply to all. No adult should be drugged without their knowledge. No facility should cost over $7500 a month. And no family member should be privileged to monitor a parent on camera and be able to decide that another shouldn't. Do better, Meridian, do better, Tammy. Do better, family. I didn't ask for a fight but I wouldn't be my father's daughter if I didn't bring this darkness to the light.

I very rarely give five star reviews but if you know anything about Assisted Living facilities, you'll understand my five star rating. My mom has been there for three years now. I did my research and visited several different facilities before deciding on this place. Having worked in the industry I knew what to look for and what was a "red flag." After doing all my research & visits I chose the Meridian at Carolina Lakes for many different reasons. I have not been disappointed with my decision. They take very good care of my mom. If you have a issue, they address it immediately & take corrective measures to ensure the issueisresolved. They make all the residents feel like they're important & comfortable. After all, this is their home. They also have a lot of family events so that the kids, grandkids & great-grandkids are more apt to come see their relatives and have an enjoyable visit. I personally visit often as I live very close to the Meridian, so I know what's happening on a day-to-day basis. I'm thankful and relieved to know that my mom is safe, well taken care of & in a clean environment. A special thanks to the Executive Director, Leann, for going above and beyond.

Today we made the difficult decision that our father needed to go into an assisted living facility. I cannot tell you how wonderful the staff at this assisted living facility treated me and my father as we entered this new world. Not only did they involve other residents and the employees there to welcome us They did everything they could to make our transition as positive and loving as could be. I am forever, grateful to the whole team for their love and support today and look forward to my father continuing to live at this wonderful place. How nice to be able to go to sleep tonight knowing my dad is cared for and safe
