Being faced with the life-altering circumstance of having a loved one being robbed of selfhood and autonomy in front of your eyes is devastating. Having to navigate the world of Assisted Living at any level, but particularly Memory Care, where cost is never equal to quality of care, is beyond daunting and incredibly overwhelming. When you finally go and tour the first facility, it took weeks of effort and a reserve of essential energy that is inarticulable and not anywhere near commensurate with what would have seemed such a simple task. I toured 13 in order to find an acceptable balance of warmth, care-capacity, and cost. I wish my Grandma would have begun her memory care transition with Gurnee Place, but though she did not, I was very pleased and relieved to know that's where she came to rest through the end of her life. She was a resident at 2 other nearby memory care homes and was miserable until we finally moved to Gurnee Place. Gurnee Place had a very good balance of all the necessary prerequisites at a reasonable cost. They don't simply abandon the residents either - they have organized events every day, usually several times per day - trivia, music, a visiting chaplain, and more. Best of all, they allow you 24-hour access to see and visit your loved one, and it's one of the few AL or MCs where I actually saw numerous family members coming and going with consistency and ease. I know how difficult it is to go through the confusing merry-go-round of care seeking and value assessment, and by now you probably do as well, but please trust me when I say that Gurnee Place is a really great choice for anyone looking for a very hands-on, and well-attended home for their loved one at a reasonable price. Best of luck, and God Bless!

I chose Gurnee Place Memory Care for both of my parents over 18 months ago, and have been very happy with our experiences there. First of all the entire staff, from the director to the nurses, the care staff, to the maintenance man, are all friendly and caring people. They all know your loved one well and clearly want to work with you as a team to provide the best care. Also, the facility is extremely clean and well-maintained. It always amazes me how immaculate it looks, and I am there almost daily. The cleanliness is constant. And finally, and maybe the most important, is that communicating concerns about your loved one is easy and responded to promptly. And they, in turn, will fill you in on everything. The trust I have in the staff is remarkable. I would highly recommend Gurnee Place Memory Care.

My mother has lived at Gurnee Place Memory Care for over 4 years. The management and staff are well trained and caring and really get to know the residents and what works for each person. She’s made many friends, both residents and staff. It’s very comfortable and laid out for people with memory issues. It’s safe and welcoming and homey. The nurses do a great job and the caregivers are wonderful. Moving there was the best decision I could have made to help my mom.
