Brookdale Urbana

My close family member was suddenly and unexpectedly dx'd with terminal cancer. Given her rapid decline, she needed more assistance than she could get at home, even with a home healthcare company coming in. So, we met with Kayla, the Executive Director of Brookdale, and it felt like the "right" fit. There's an emphasis on family and how the residents of Brookdale are all family and treated like family. The facility is very clean. The staff friendly and smiling. They were preparing for their Christmas party. We liked many of the community elements and even the birds: Brook and Dale, and we really hoped that our loved one would rebound enough to get to enjoy this new home. Sadly, she continued to rapidly decline and needed to transfer to hospice care instead of rebounding. However, this was where Brookdale shined even brighter, particularly Nurse Kelli whose compassion was palpable as she sat with my loved one, holding her hand and talking softly during a particularly bad moment of physical pain. My loved one was cared for with compassion as a human, as a family member. Bathed. Medicated. Offered food with no pressure at every meal even though she had stopped eating. And when the last day came, the nurses and staff went out of their way to ensure that our apartment was quiet and undisturbed by anyone other than the nurses helping us. It's still fresh and it still hurts, but I say with 100% truth: thank you to Kayla and Christy and Ashley and Kelli for making this nightmare so much better than it would have been at home or at the hospital. Brookdale was a second home during a terrible transition and they treated all of us very well. I definitely recommend Brookdale, wholeheartedly.

Kendra Cline was amazing as we went through informational calls and took a tour of Brookdale. What was feeling like a stressful time trying to make the right decision for our loved one was made easier by Kendra and the team. After speaking with them plus touring the facility we felt instantly at peace - that this was the right place. The team has helped us and our loved one through the transition and acclimation process being understanding and responsive to us as family members since we as the extended family are all out of state.

I had visited several Assisted Living facilities before I went to talk to the people at Brookdale in Urbana. I knew right away that I had found the right place. Ashlie was very kind and easy to work with. She understood what I was looking for and did an excellent job of communicating with me. Christie also knew what our needs were and assured me that they were able to take care of my loved one every step of the way. The facility was bright and cheery with a lot of windows. Everything was clean and everyone I encountered was so nice! I would not hesitate to tell anyone that this is a great facility and that they should definitely see if it’s a place for them. My uncle had great care at Brookdale. He enjoyed the residents, the staff and his one bedroom apartment. From his first days at Brookdale to his hospice care later he was safe and comfortable. The transportation to doctor appointments was very helpful.

I came to Brookdale for a temporary stay to complete my recovery from physical injuries. My stay at Brookdale has been an excellent experience. The facility is first-rate and the staff is even better. From management to nursing care to maintenance to dining services, the staff is unsurpassed in their ability and willingness to serve the senior community. I recommend Brookdale Urbana to anyone looking for senior housing and, who knows, I may return some day to live here again!
