First off the location is amazing. It's set back in a large wooded park so walks and outdoor activities are very nice. The staff is very professional and caring. My wife is in the healthcare center and it is always staffed with several nurses so she is well taken care of. The entire staff is attentive and friendly. Although the building is old it is maintained well, clean, and has a nice homey atmosphere.

My parents had very good experiences here. We used the services of assisted living, memory care and the in-patient too. The team was professional from the first day. The leadership, to the staff and of course all the folks who provided direct care were wonderful. Caledonia is in a natural-forrest setting, facilities are clean, and the grounds couldn't be more peaceful. The practices for delivering medicines and connecting with the family for community events and medical needs are well done. We never felt out of the loop. Thank you to the team there!

My mother at the age of 93 needed an assisted living facility after being released from the hospital (following a fall inside a Wal-Mart store). In my quest to find such a facility, I had explored several and The Scottish Home (now known as Caledonia Senior Living) was an immediate standout. My neurologist in Hinsdale told me that for the consideration of the price involved, there isn’t a more finer place than The Scottish Home (the only place my doctor would rate higher is the King Bruwaert House in Hinsdale, but even he said he wouldn’t be able to afford the cost of that place)! What are the special amenities? The first attribute you notice when you approach the outside of the building is the peaceful serenity that you experience from the feeling that the property is nestled within Cook County Forest Preserve, along with the beautiful flowers adorning the building’s entrance. Once inside, you can sense a warm and cozy feeling from the layout and what appears to be an expensive Scottish plaid carpeting. The building is a well-built structure with both air conditioning for the summer and hot water heat for the winter. Hot water heat is far more comfortable than gas forced-air heat, since it provides a even heat which is both moist and quiet, while it doesn't create any negative air pressure. Conversely, gas forced-air heat produces a blowy, dry heat with negative air pressure that invites the cold outside higher pressured air to invade into the heated space that in turn creates cold spots (besides the gas forced-air heat has to travel through heating ducts that can cause allergy problems). The food is extraordinarily and is served on china alongside crystal glasses (besides the china cups for the tea and/or coffee). The management and the staff are very outgoing, friendly and professional. The staff has quite a few members who are long-termed employees, which is a testament to the working environment, along with the good relationship they apparently enjoy with management. There are a number of private rooms (with a view of the forest preserve) available in the Scottish Home, which was the one selected by my mother, together with the adjoining private bathroom. There are numerous activities including games, discussion groups, arts and crafts, outside entertainment, light exercise programs (even a weekly bible studies class, for those interested). Every Sunday includes a Catholic Mass along with a Non-Denominational Christian Service. Overall, I couldn't be happier with our decision in selecting The Scottish Home (now known as Caledonia Senior Living)!

All elder care facilities are not created equal! Just walking into the Caledonia Senior Living and Memory Care facilities you get the sense that this one is special. There is a home like feel, and the food is excellent. The beautifully decorated common areas and the well maintained grounds, along with the caring staff set it apart. My mother was a health care resident of the Scottish Home in 2011 and received outstanding care. My father spent several hours each day with her and was very thankful for the level of care she received. In 2015 my 95 year old father had the opportunity to benefit from respite care for the weekend. Even though he was only there for a few days, the staff made him feel welcome!
