FERNWOOD REST HOME, INC

I am deeply concerned about the conditions at this facility. It is presented as a rest home, but the reality is far different. A large percentage of the residents suffer from severe mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other serious psychiatric disorders, many with histories of violent psychotic episodes. About half of the residents also live with significant physical disabilities. Despite the high level of need, there appear to be no adequate medical professionals on site - no doctors, nurses, or licensed social workers providing consistent psychiatric or medical oversight. Residents receive little meaningful support or therapeutic care. Many spend nearly all of their time confined to their beds, getting up only for meals or smoke breaks. There is little evidence of structured programming, rehabilitation, or active engagement to improve quality of life. Even more alarming is the depressing condition of the property itself. Serious maintenance failures, including massive oil spills and structural roof collapses, have created a dangerous and unhealthy environment. The situation has escalated to the point where state agencies have reportedly ordered evacuation of residents due to safety concerns. Vulnerable individuals deserve dignity, safety, professional care, and a clean living environment. Based on what we have witnessed, this facility falls far short of those basic, humane standards.

I'm not sure what goes on at this facility on a daily basis but from what I observed in the few times that I've been here and especially today it's no place that I would want anyone that I care about to be. I was commissioned to pick up a patient from another facility in Torrington to this facility, the patient is on oxygen has all kinds of personal items as well as a big packet of medication. I arrived at fernwood with no contact information and no one physically present to assist this man. I entered the building only to find the reception desk in the hallways empty from anyone who can help me except for the residents who stay there.. the pungent smell of cigarette smoke permeates the air! Why a facility would order a Lyft ride for a patient like this and then provide no contact information is beyond me!
