Mom had multiple UTI's (urinary tract infections) and got a black eye. We were discouraged from going to the Emergency Department but they kept Mom for 3 nights when we did. I was personally retaliated against by the owner giving us a 30 Day Notice of Discharge two times, both immediately denied by the state. Then when we were trying to move out, he called Adult Protective Services saying I was taking my mom against her will. The Curana Health Nurse Practitioner, in cahoots with owner, who gets many residents from The Gardens, her former employer, refused to sign paperwork for new facility. There were several exceptional caregivers who were also being vigilantly watched on interior cameras and were also being harassed. Almost zero activities and no specialized care or communication strategies for residents with memory impairment. $8200 a month and the $3000 Security Deposit was not returned despite meeting all the conditions for vacating the space. I'm an RN and speak the truth. 08.11.2025 I posted about a year ago and still haven't gotten my $3,000 security deposit back. I am working on getting it back now.

A family member has been living a the Kansas City location (not Leawood KS) for about a year, after a less-than-ideal stay at an assisted living facility. She has dementia and limited mobility. We appreciate the personal attention she receives, the good home-cooked food, and the fact that at least two staff members are there 24/7 (this is a small home in a residential neighborhood and has room for 7 residents.) One example of the personal care - they found out that my relative loves fresh tomatoes. One of the staff made the effort to bring one to her and slice it as an afternoon treat. She ate the whole tomato and loved it! If there is an opening when you're looking for long-term care in the north Kansas City area, check this place out. (The Leawood home, which you may also see online, is closed.)
