I can’t say enough good things about Magnolia Place Saxonburg, there’s no other place that I would feel comfortable leaving my loved ones, the people who run this place truly care about the people who live there and they form real relationships with them. If you’re considering this move at all for a loved one, do yourself a favor and go to Magnolia Place Saxonburg and sleep soundly at night knowing your loved ones are being treated right when you’re not around. That’s priceless.

Transitioning my uncle into an assisted living facility was truly one of the most difficult decisions I have ever been a part of. Finding the right place to accommodate my uncle's special needs really was a challenge. It wasn't until we found Magnolia Place of Saxonburg that I finally felt a sense of relief that we found "the one". When we arrived to tour the facility, John at the front desk welcomed us warmly and set us up to see the Executive Director, Christal. Our meeting with her was so informative. She is so very knowledgeable and her assessment of my uncle was spot on. She was very in tune to his needs, and with him being deaf, she didn't hesitate to offer to research interpreting options for him to give him complete access to communication. During our tour, we met with many staff members who really made us feel at home and welcome. He met with Anthony who is the go to guy for anything and I mean ANYTHING that my uncle would need in his room. He joked and teased my uncle making him smile and laugh. We met Amy in the kitchen who came out and started signing to my uncle. The look on his face was sheer joy to see someone trying to communicate to him in his language! She gave him a big warm hug, too. We knew immediately that this was the place for my uncle and we started the process that day for his anticipated move in! Day of move in was a very long one. We met with all the staff from the silly and animated Roy and Liv from the kitchen to all the staff who will be tending to him like Rachel, Cate, Mackenzie, Cheyenne, Marina and so many others I can't remember names! What I loved was how motivated everyone was in learning how to communicate with my uncle. It was otherworldly! Amy went above and beyond that it brought me to tears. Knowing that my uncle has limited reading and writing capabilities, she made a binder just for him with photos of many of the menu items that they offer during meal times on every page. Making this binder had to have been so time consuming, yet she did this just for him so that he can choose the meals and drinks that he would like. Simply Amazing! His nurse at assessment was so sweet and caring. She made him feel so comfortable and made the medical transition super fast and easy! Let me just say that Christal is an angel. She TRULY CARES for the residents here at Magnolia. I see it through her interactions with everyone as well as how she goes above and beyond for my uncle in so many ways. I see it and I appreciate it. I'm so terrible with names, and I feel bad for not personally shouting out a few others. Everyone at Magnolia seems to have been hand selected for this job and I am grateful to have the peace of mind knowing that my uncle is in the most amazing caring hands. xo

Very supportive, caring & involved owner! The management team is always readily available & approachable and works along side everyone! The staff are very knowledgeable and works as a team and care for all the residents like they are family. The true meaning of a family owned & operated facility. Many activities and events to include the residents, staff & families. Laughter always filling the halls.

An engaging and caring staff all around and can always find a team member when you are visiting. The new wing looks absolutely stunning, spacious and modern.

I can’t say enough disheartening things about this facility, from a family member perspective and from someone who works in LTC. If I had known Elmcroft was for-profit I never would have put family there from the beginning. They’ve been on a provisional license and it has not been lifted. The amount of guilt on my shoulders knowing my loved one is stuck here is unexplainable. I have been trying for WEEKS to get ahold of a staff member via phone and every single time you call, no matter what time of day, you’re lucky if someone picks up after 5 entire minutes of waiting (trust me I’ve kept track). And if someone does finally pick up, you will then wait another 5 minutes until someone in heartland Village answers, just to be rushed off the phone. But after probably 20 times of trying just this past few weeks I give up. So there is no one to voice your grievances to and no paper forms available. No matter how many times you tell a nurse or aide your contact info and to please reach out you when your loved one falls or anything notable happens, you will hear nothing. Over a year ago an aide on heartland Village never even reported a major fall with my loved one and told me he just lowered them to the floor and that it was “nothing to be worried about.” This was AFTER I had to ask the staff what happened. They were not going to tell me at all to begin with. They were in searing pain, unable to move, covered in bruises for two weeks. I’d never felt so helpless before watching my loved one go through such a thing. I will have to tell aides my loved one needs changed (when it’s insanely obvious and their linens are soaked) and they’ll say “hmm yeah I thought I smelled urine” so why didn’t you CHANGE THEM?!? Ignorance at its finest. Next- They have not had an activities staff member for heartland Village for well over a year. These residents receive absolutely no stimulation and not a single thing on their “activities calendar” happens. This has contributed greatly to my loved ones decline. I have had to pay money, or bring in my own supplies from my employers departments, to engage my loved one. Staff continuously yell at them and tell them to get in their room. They wonder why they’re causing mischief..because they have no choices but to stare at the walls day and night. It is dark, dingy, and depressing down there. They have no lights in their living room creating a fall hazard. The window screens are constantly laying on the ground outside instead of being put in the window properly for safety, which the state has cited them for. Moving on- My loved one receives ONE silverware spoon sized serving of fruit with their dinner and this is supposed to be considered a nutritious meal. They do not offer substitutes when they see a resident has no interest in the meal they’re given, or is confused by it (due to dementia) they take their plate away instead and call it a day. This is just a few of the ongoing unresolved grievances I have with Elmcroft. I had never been more disappointed by all aspects of a facility. SO so saddening.
