Definitely a welcoming atmosphere for your love one. The first thing you notice is the clean look and smell. The Director Mr. Delano Goff is knowledgeable, approachable, and caring. It’s good to know there is a place that feels like home for your love one

Over the past year, I have noticed many positive changes within this facility. The executive director has done a great job with staffing and improving the cleanliness of the facility. We need more places like this for our elderly to feel like home and treated like family.

It has taken me some time in deciding to comment. My statement is true and painful -difficult to share -let alone write. Please reconsider if you are considering The Oaks for memory care. From the top down-management, nursing, LPN, and med techs I was confronted with unprofessionalism, lies and incompetence. My husbands last days were nothing less than anguish, shock and horror. .I am still left shaken ,traumatized and heartbroken.

My mother moved into The Oaks on Skidaway Road in Savannah, GA, in June 2024. Over the past year, my family and I have encountered several significant issues that I feel compelled to share with anyone considering this facility for their loved ones. My mother is a fall risk. The necklace with a button they gave her didn't work. We traded it out. They gave her another one, but that also didn't work. There have been at least two occasions where she sat on the floor for more than an hour waiting for help. We have experienced problems with pests, specifically cockroaches in my mother's room and bathroom. Additionally, there were plumbing issues with her shower that resulted in leaks extending down to the dining hall during meal time. The laundry service has also been inconsistent and a source of stress for my mother. Although her laundry day is scheduled for Thursdays, it is often collected on different days without notice. We have had instances of receiving other residents' clothing and my mother's clothes going missing. On one occasion, my mother saw another woman wearing her robe, indicating a significant error in the laundry process. Furthermore, the staff turnover at The Oaks appears to be very high. Since last year, there have been changes in the executive office at this property, and we have heard rumors from other residents about potential misconduct leading to an arrest. The facility refers to orderlies as "care partners," many of whom seem to be young, hourly employees. It is concerning that there is a constant rotation of new faces, and it's unclear why the facility struggles with staff retention. Shortly after moving in, my mother, who has Alzheimer's, formed a romantic relationship with another resident without Alzheimer's. My brother and I raised concerns about the issue of sexual consent, but the facility stated they could not intervene. This left us with ongoing uncertainty about my mother's well-being and whether she was being taken advantage of sexually. The quality of food has also been a major concern. On one occasion, the kitchen staff reportedly yelled at my mother when she politely requested an alternative to liver, despite the facility supposedly having a daily menu for such situations. We were told that "care partners" should ask residents each morning about their preferences for lunch and dinner, but this does not consistently happen. Consequently, residents are sometimes faced with meals they dislike, and the chef has reportedly come out to reprimand both staff and residents in the dining hall. Attempting to address these issues has been difficult. When I finally reached the regional manager, I discovered that she is married to the Vice President of the company. Her response to our complaints was dismissive, and she criticized me for not following the "proper chain of command." This experience suggests that complaints may not be taken seriously or may be covered up by upper management. As of today, April 29, 2025, the regional manager has still not contacted me, despite her promise to "personally" call me and discuss the "investigation" into the kitchen staff. Still no word from her. My grandmother also resided at this property in the 1990s, so our family has a history with The Oaks and had higher expectations. The current attitude from the corporate office demonstrates a lack of respect and disregard for my mother's well-being. Currently, there are only two staff members at The Oaks whom I trust. I worry that when they eventually leave, there will be no one left who genuinely cares for my mother's well-being. Finally, the deteriorating physical condition of the property, combined with the cockroaches and constant influx of new staff, leads me to strongly advise anyone considering The Oaks to conduct thorough research. Disclaimer: The current ED at this facility, Delano, while very young, is one that I believe cares. He personally came up to my mother’s room to help her off the floor when the button didn’t work. Teresa and the medication team are the real glue. Grateful for them.
