ORION PERSONAL CARE

Orion was great place for my dad during his last years of life. His Alzheimer’s/Lewy Body Dementia made it impossible for him to live at home but at the same time he did not require a SNF. Orion allowed him to have some freedom and also companionship. Staff was caring and patient. He was given home cooked meals. The facility is small so the residents get personal attention. Coordination of care with home health services and hospice were always great. It was the perfect choice for our family and dad.

We chose Orion after being at a luxury memory care facility. At Orion, it feels more like a home, the care team has been there a while, are experienced, responsive and look happy to be there. The administrator is on top of things, is very communicative and experienced. The place is quiet and has enough activities that there is engagement with each patient. My mom is happier at Orion. We are all happy with the quality of care at Orion and highly recommend the place if you have a loved one that needs memory care.

My mother-in-law lived in this community for over one month before her passing - our family was especially impressed by the small, intimate size of the community, which made it feel more personal and less overwhelming. The building itself was undergoing renovations and improvements, which showed a real commitment to making it an even better place for residents. The outside courtyard is beautiful and she had thoroughly enjoyed spending time there. One of the biggest positives was the new administrator, who was incredibly kind, responsive, and clearly dedicated to both residents and families. My MIL felt comfortable, cared for, and happy during her time there — and that means the world to us.

I would definitely recommend Orion because of the style of a small home, a family environment, great care. This type of place is something that anyone having a loved one suffering of dementia should send. The new administrator is just so wonderful. I strongly recommend Orion as a safe and caring place for your loved one. My mother was an 8-year resident of Orion – so I’ve had plenty of time to observe and assess the home over the years. When my mom first had her head injury that required long term care, finding a place that was able to handle my mom’s agitation and disposition was very difficult. Many homes turned us down and we were really panicked we could find a place at all, let alone a place with the nuanced, customized care of Orion. I trusted their care for my mom and anyone looking for a spot for their loved ones should consider Orion. The home is a unique environment that I feel is very beneficial to a residents well-being because it has a feeling of home in that it’s literally a converted house where everyone congregates in the central areas all day long in family and dining room type settings so the staff can keep a close eye on everyone. It doesn’t feel like a nursing or memory care or hospital setting at all. It feels like a home with plenty of interesting things going on all the time and I know this brightens the experiences for the residents. I believe the setting gives loved ones a familiar sense of their prior home lives and gives them peace. The house itself has the central gathering spaces but also a nice safe back porch, sun room, and enclosed garden and front porch, all very nice for visits. The bedrooms are all large and comfortable with extra recliners and furniture. It’s clean and well kept. The new owners are reinvesting a lot of capital into the home, renovating the building and transforming the environment using medically affirmed concepts to further the positive experience for those living there. It’s a small, tight knit family and the staff to resident ratio is very high. There are always caregivers around and watching over everyone carefully. There is low turnover with the staff and the care they provide is excellent. They are very kind and personally know each resident and are diligent with their safety and needs. I'm forever grateful to the staff for their care over the years. They provide home cooked meals that aligns with the “at home” feel of Orion and provide lots of snacks or ad-hoc support as needed. They carefully watch over the residents during meals and make sure they are eating and drinking and customize dietary options for all the residents as needed. The location is excellent – it’s very convenient for anyone especially those living anywhere in the North Hills – it’s a 15 minute drive from many of the northern neighborhoods. It’s easy to communicate with the staff, I could text them whenever I wanted and got quick answers or updates. Visitation was also very easy and flexible. They had a balanced and careful approach during COVID that was responsible and reasonable. The home is also very adaptable to different levels of mental status. They support residents across a wide range of dispositions. The new ownership has been very responsive and focused on the family’s needs and feedback. They also have frequent events and activities: parties, crafts, volunteers that come in entertain and interact with the residents, parties for all holidays, etc. Orion also has a great relationship with various hospice care providers including Monarch which also helped my mom, and it was fantastic to have that second layer of care for my mom during the rougher times. Monarch bolsters the existing care with nursing care, aids, faith-based visits and communication/status. We would not have had my mom at one place for 8 years without having trust in Orion – we will always be thankful for the care and support they provided to my mom through so many tough years.
